Will it be one of the biggest failures in NBA history?
I mean this was the team that was labeled the Spurs of the East. They won 60 games and got the number 1 seed. Their coach won Coach of the Year. They had 4 players selected as All Stars. The Hawks were soaring high. With key injuries to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Hawks path to the NBA Finals seemed all but clear and a sure thing. The Hawks were actually going to make it to the big dance. This was their year.
Then, the playoffs started. Now, their facing one of the most epic collapses in NBA history. A team seemingly destined to reach their goal is now getting their hearts torn apart by a crippled Cavs team. LeBron James is screaming, "This is too easy!" J.R. Smith is looking like Jordan playing versus the Hawks. Thompson and Mozgov are man handling them like their kids. Instead of Coach of the Year, Mike Budenholzer is looking like an inexperience coach in over his head. Everything is breaking down for the Hawks.
Their 60 wins now is the butt of jokes. Their All Star selections are now laughable. Their number 1 seed seems to be nothing more than smoke and mirrors.
What an epic collapse. Possibly, if they get swept by this Cavs team, which is suffering pivotal injuries, it could be the biggest failure in NBA history.
Everyone will remember how the Hawks, who were this seemingly power house of All Stars and won 60 games, were nothing more than cannon fodder for LeBron James and the Cleveland Knicks.
