View Full Version : Was LeBron's 3 before Ray's 3 the most forgotten clutch shot in NBA finals history?

I'm sure more than 80% doesn't remember it... I'd bet haters will even search the play-by-play of that game.
And don't say it's not a clutch shot. They were facing elimination, down 5, and 28 seconds left.
(I'M NOT A LEBRON FAN OR STAN. NOT EVERYONE WHO DOESN'T HATE HIM IS.)
What is more forgotten that game is the defense by Lebron on Parker's gamewinning attempt with 5 seconds to go after that Ray 3 which is the last actual reason that caused OT and then the takeover by Lebron in OT who also hit the last actual basket to take the lead with 2 points which won the game...

Gutsy shot, especially right after a bad miss before that, gave way to that Ray Allen shot.

LOL. That 1 star was quick. As expected from LeBron haters. :oldlol: :oldlol:
Pauk - I agree. I thought that was good D, too.
AintNoSunshine - I think not having Duncan and poor box out made way for Ray's 3.

It doesn't compare to the Allen 3 but it was nevertheless very impressive

I agree.. I'm not arguing that.
But the idea of Ray bailing out the Heat was always laughable to me.

Don't be ridiculous, it is forgotten because no one really remembers the shot before THE SHOT. The only reason you are trying to make us remember is because you are searching long and hard for magical Lebron moments, which is stupid because he's had plenty. Get on with it and just admit Ray Allen saved the day and his legacy.

Didn't he airball the one before if i remember correctly and was also wide open anyway? (while also turning it over like 3 times in the last few minutes) - so probably because it wasn't particularly impressive, whereas Ray Allen's shot was.

That LeBron 3 will always be forgotten. What Ray Allen did, in those fainting seconds, is one of the most clutches and coldblooded moments in sports history. I'm not just talking NBA. I'm talking in the mankind invention of sports.
That Ray Allen shot will always be remembered as The Shot. What he did that night was breathtaking. I still get goosebumps thinking about that shot. Wow!

Frankly....every single person who thinks anyone who already has a ring and 4MVPs at age 28 needs to be "saved" is an idiot. Without exception.
That said....no. That isnt even close to the most forgotten clutch shot. People are generally aware of it.
There have been title winning shots most on ISH and in the world of sports dont even know happened.
Vinnie Johnson hit a pullup jumper over Kersey with less than a second left to win the title and im not sure ive seen anyone mention it here...ever.
Lebrons shot was needed....but we all know it happened. And it didnt even win anything. It put them in position to possibly tie it and force a game 7 to win.
Microwave actually won the NBA title with a jumper and nobody gives a shit because they dont know who he is. Far more important shot and far less well known.

Of course, no one can ever forget about the G.O.A.T Michael Jordan. He's in a league of his own. I don't think one shot is better than any other from him. It seems every shot Jordan took was defining his legacy as the best to ever do it.

Iirc he missed the three pointer just before ray's shot, which is what lead to the infamous rebound and game tying three. LeBron was 1/3 in like the last minute or so. The shot is forgotten and it's not necessarily a crime. Making 1/3 shots in the clutch is not usually defined as "clutch."

funny thing is he missed his first shot so badly (air ball) .......and that was the reason they got the offensive rebound (miller) before hitting the three and cut it to two points...if his shot was better...spurs are the champs.

People rarely remember the shot before the shot.
Before MJ's shot over Craig Ehlo, Jordan had hit a go-ahead shot with about 6 seconds left, and Ehlo made a go ahead shot with 3 seconds left. Ehlo was hurt and had something like 15 4th quarter points, he was playing better than anyone other than MJ in that quarter.
Byron Scott made a huge shot with about 45 seconds left to cut the Pistons lead to 1 in game 6 of the 1988 finals, the one with Isiah's sprained ankle and 25 point 4th quarter. Then came the controversial foul call on Bill Laimbeer on Kareem's sky hook.

^ This. Lebron had a great 4th quarter to bring the Heat back, but then he turned the ball over a couple times allowing the Spurs to get the lead back and missed two three pointers, however his teammates got the rebound both times.

Of course, I'll never forget the shot that led to Ray Allen's bail-out shot. If Lebron doesn't hit the shot, Ray Allen would have had to make two shots in a row.

It was. Not gonna lie. GOAT gonna GOAT but ray's shot is the best I've ever seen (saved Bron's career) and I've been watching this game longer than most on here have been alive.

Was it more important? They were already up 3-1 at that point. They were either going to go to overtime because it was already tied or if they lose, they still had other games to win. With the Heat, it was win or go home.
There were some other game winnning shots that nobody talks about and other clutch shots. Like I'm shocked no one really talks about Bird's game winner in 1984 in game 4, over his rival Magic as well.
I suppose it depends on whatever you consider to be important. I think the situation was more dire in the Heat's situation.
Anyway, I think everyone who watched the series is aware of that LBJ 3 pt shot.

KBlaze - I think that Vinnie Johnson shot is far from forgotten. Here on ISH it is.. but from the real NBA junkies.. it's definitely regarded as a memorable one.
Magic32 - So what if he got 3-4 turnovers/misses? He hit a three after... in a crucial situation. You should know that... you're a Kobe fan.

Nobody gives a shit because merely seconds before Ray Allen's legacy saving 3 pointer, LeBron* put up a brick 3 pointer.
These LeCollusion fanboys have a selective memory.

I aint no fanboy...
again, not hating on lebron doesn't mean you're a fan
and haters are the ones with selective memory... they're the ones who kept saying he got saved.. even though he lead them there and scored 16 in the 4th.

It was a big shot but yeah he had his chances before.
The Ray shot was on a broken play, chased back... the fact he got behind the line and wet it was an act of God imo. I'd say Chris Bosh's reb/pass was more impressive than Bron's three, but it's true that Bron has to make that shot or there is no Ray 3.
Not to mention Bron took another 3 after and missed to start the play. So all of that together mean that shot gets lost in the moment.
Edit: This shot is my favorite clutch shot tho.
