View Full Version : Does anyone get the feeling that the Hawks might win this series?

I know the being down 0-3 basically means you lost the series if you look at statistics. Teams are something like 0-116 in series where they are down 0-3. But I feel like this series is unique in the fact that how many #1 seeds have been down 0-3 and how many teams up 3-0 have 2 of their players injured? The real kicker is that game 7 is in Atlanta. If it were in Cleveland there would be zero chance but that is sort of the equalizer. If the Hawks can take this one tonight they can go back to Atlanta and pick up a win, then they only have one game to play until game 7 in Atlanta. There has been a lot of very timely 3 pt shooting on the cavs end and you gotta think they are bound to cool off at some point. I also feel like the Hawks motivation level is gonna be at an all time high with the absurd Horford situation and dellavadova thuggery. If there has ever been a number #1 seed down 0-3 before I'd be interested in seeing how that series played out

You and possibly the ball boy for the Hawks, no one else... and I'm not convinced you're not one and the same.

I'm just saying, out of all the teams that have ever been down 0-3 they may have the best shot to make it happen in a long time

The only way it happens is if the Atlanta of mid regular season that was torching everyone shows up for 4 straight games, and I see no way that happens with Korver out. And even if it does, 4 straight wins against Lebron is pretty much guaranteed failure. No matter how well you play he's a lock to destroy you by himself at least 1 time in 4 games.

Only time it will happen is if a team with a superstar has that guy injured, then comes back after the first three games and completely changes the series.

Lebaldo is an epic choker. If anyone can be the first in history to choke away a 3-0 lead, it's certainly Lebaldo

Horford's gunna have to direct those elbows at LeBron's legs. Even without James, it's still not a given that you come out with quad W's...

I thought if they won last game they might win the series. 2-1 vs 3-0 is a world of difference of course. Now? Eh.

I'll tell you what I think....

I think the Hawks are a team with good talent and immense chemistry.

And they like dozens of other teams like them you didnt want to hear about through the season....are never gonna be as effective as their record suggests when playing a team with decent chemistry and an immense talent to rally around.

The Hawks formula works about once every 30 years. So was it possible this was the year? Sure. But it takes a lot of breaks. And they GOT a lot of them and still find themselves 0-3. They face the Wizards with their best player out much of the series. They play the Cavs missing their second and third best players. And still....

My issue with the Hawks and not buying that their record mattered was simply having watched this happen too many times. Some deep team that is probably...48-52 wins good....has a crazy run and ends up with 55-62 wins. Teams like these Hawks....the Rockets that won like 56 with Yao and tmac hurt..had the 22 game win streak. Teams like that.

None of their overly excited fans want to hear that it doesnt last. That their team is good....but playing at the very peak of its potential while plenty of teams winning a little less have room to step up.

So what happens is the good team with the great record runs into a good team with merely a good record....and it turns out they are equals. Both good. Anyone can win. Record suggests a greater difference than really exists.

And you know what often happens when two teams are pretty equal?

They turn to someone in the hopes they can take it over. You turn to your star and ask him to decide that you win....and they lose.

And the team with such a player...has a huge advantage.

That guy is used to it. His teammates are used to falling in line and taking advantage of every chance they get.

You get a guy on the other team who attempts to do the same once its obvious that guy might beat you himself. His teammates spent a season all being equals. They dont just...fall into line. It isnt selfishness...its routine.

The Hawks are used to winning together.

The Cavs are used to leaning on two guys to make the plays and one guy when it comes right down to it.

They make you play their game and beat you with experience.

You can ball movement and hustle your way to 60 wins. Its hard to do it to get 3 key baskets.

The Spurs do it....but they have Tim Duncan.

THe 77 Blazers did it....but they had Bill Walton.

You get a 79 Sonics or an 04 Pistons every few decades...but you cant count on it.

You can count on someone who cant be matched putting you over the top when all else is equal.

And in 4 more games...I gotta think a a couple are close....and its hard to imagine Lebron doesnt put them over the top once.

So no...I dont see a comeback...

But for the reasons you listed its more likely than usual.

All of which is why I said:

This sounds almost exactly like when Pistons fans were talking about 70 wins and being ____ ahead of ____. 4 all stars...damn near 5. People said Prince was snubbed like Korver now. I remember they put in the Pistons plus Lebron in the ASG and erased a good lead the west had.

They end up winning 64 games...won the east by like 12 games. Playoffs arrive and they lose to a team that barely won 50 games. Wade superstared the shit outta them after they spent all that time talking shit about not needing a superstar. Then Lebron did it again the next year dropping 30 in a row to keep them alive and force them to double so hard next game Boobie took like 9 wide open threes and beat them.
Then they run into a team with not one...but 3 at least borderline superstars(in 08 id say all 3 were still on the level of 07).

And RBA said:

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

After you acted like I was out of line to bring up these situations.

Perhaps next time you will understand that there are reasons to question a great record beyond being "salty".

Maybe the Hawks force a game 7. Maybe they win. Its not....impossible. But either way it should be painfully clear why people spent the whole season saying "So what?" to their record while you acted an ass.

No, none whatsoever and thats not trying to be a jerk. I just don't see it. I honestly think Houston has a better shot, as strange as that sounds. I'd love to see them both go to game 7. But Atlanta is the underdog now and I always root for the underdog so I'm rooting for them..

No they won't, this is a sweep if i've ever seen one. Lebron is going to guarantee they don't have to play another game till June 4th.

Of course it can happen. Hawks win tonight, series back to Atlanta, a die hard Hawks fan kidnaps JR and Shumpert until June 4, so the Hawks win 4 in a row.
