Here's my list:
- Shawn Respert
Not given enough chance. A scoring machine at MSU.

- Mateen Cleaves
I really expected a lot from him. He, too, was great in MSU.

Sebastian Telfair
- He should've went to college. He was great but it was clear that he was very raw.

Troy Bell
- Not given enough chance. I really liked him in college.

- Shaun Livingston
I think he could've been a great player. Like an 18-8 type of PG... should've went to college.

- Marcus Williams
Not given enough chance. He would've been a decent player.

- Acie Law
He was good in college. Felt flat in the league.

- Jonny Flynn
What the hell happened to Jonny Flynn? Really...

---
Can these guys be considered busts?
- Randy Foye
- Eric Maynor
- TJ Ford

- D'angelo Russell
Was a great scorer in college, but his athleticism didn't translate to the NBA. After 3 years with the Knicks, he bounced around the league for a couple of years, then went on to the Euroleague to win 4 Euroleague titles and 3 MVP's.

You think so? I don't think he'll be a bust. Also, he's more of a 2.

Got a hunch on that nikka

A good add to your list is Jay Williams (#2 pick) from the 2002 draft, did he even play due to injuries?

Dajuan Wagner from the same draft class too.

Telfair
Banks
Flynn
Nelson (I thought he would be much better)

Otherwise I dunno, mostly because I don't keep up with the pre-NBA game.

Utah right now has two possible busts.

Timberwolves picked Flynn over Curry? Or am I getting my years mixed up?

Dajuan Wagner, but it is due to the health problems.

TJ Ford. Ah what could have been.

Wouldn't consider him a bust though.

I don't think he was a bust considering where he got drafted. More like over achieved to over hyped to overrated

Sebastian Telfair. Growing up near NYC, his name often came up amongst the older kids who followed ball more than we did at that point.

Shaun Livingston. Injuries screwed him over.

Jay Williams. From what I have read, he should have been way better than he was his rookie season and his career ending accident doesn't help.

Johnny Flynn. I actually thought he was legit and wouldn't be a bad PG in the league. I thought he would be like Darren Collison, a great backup or a decent starter for 10+ years.

I know he isn't a point guard but a point forward like Terrence Williams. I really thought he would be a steal and a jack-of-all-trades 6th man for some team by now.

Jonny Flynn came to mind right away. He's probably dominating some minor league overseas as we speak.

There was a pretty good long form article about Flynn over the winter, I think from Jason Concepcion, who does most of the long form stuff at Grantland.

IIRC he was killing it in Australia. But he had a serious hip problem that sort of drove him out of the league according to the story.

Before the last 6 or 7 years it was a huge bust position because it just didn't translate from college to the pro game very clearly. Since the implementation of the zone rules, it's become a much more valuable position, and the way it translates is much easier to see, so it's become more clear. It really took a few years after the zone rules went in before teams started exploiting them, and then counter exploiting them, before the PG spot really started to get it's current value.

yes, right after they took Rubio.
Wow. 2 PG busts (Rubio is alright) with Curry still available.:facepalm

I think they took Ty Lawson later in that first round and traded him to Denver. It was 3 PGs in one first round and still managed to miss out on the best one.

Guess people doubted his ability to translate his scoring to the NBA and if he could develop better point skills.

Still can't believe how good Curry is now. Back when GS was deciding who to keep Ellis or Curry I wasn't sure. I had no idea how dramatically he would improve and how quickly.

Once again, thank God those ankles were worked on and we got to see this.

After his 54 on the Knicks (my favorite game ever) I became a believer. Hope he gets a ring and FMVP.

The year the Wolves drafted 3 pgs and traded away the best one was just so typical Minnesota type sh1t.

Telfair should have went to college
I loved Acie Law in college but he flopped in the NBA.
I though Nolan Smith would make a solid pro but he flopped pretty hard.

Definitely Jimmer. He's been a disaster thus far...

Yeah.. Totally forgot Jimmer Fredette. He was a monster in BYU. I hope he at least turns into a decent role player.

Dajuan Wagner too.. I thought he was gonna be a star.

My bad on Shawn Respert... I thought he had cancer after he was out of the league. Looking back, it was better that he was benched too much.. he could've died in there.

I didn't include Jay Williams 'cause he just played 1 season.. we really didn't know if he'll be a bust.

Nice shout out to Terrence Williams (although he wasn't a PG, but yeah.. he was a point forward).. I liked his game a lot..

Anyone else thought Mateen Cleaves was gonna play well in the NBA? In my OP, he was probably the player I was most hyped about.

There was Curry, Jennings, Lawson, Jrue Holiday, Teague and even Collison picked after Flynn/Rubio in that draft.

Curry - ankles
Everyone else - weren't highly touted

Lmao he was an undrafted D-Leaguer. Not a bust.
