View Full Version : What moves can the Hawks do to improve?

Hawks had a great season, winning 60 games for the first time in team history.
No one thought they would get this far. Now it's an opportunity to get to that next level through free agency and the draft (#15 pick).
Say, you are the Hawks GM, what moves would you do?
Move the team somewhere else.

Jeff Teague for Bargnani. So coach Bud can work his magic.

Bargs is a unrestricted free agent, so why trade an all start point guard for him? :confusedshrug:
That said, Bargs fits perfectly in the Hawks system, shoots the ball well and doesn't rebound.

Play team ball... around a superstar

I'd trade all 4 of their All Stars for Lebron.
Hawks over Cavs

Oh man... this is gonna be long.
Bulls trade Thibs to Lakers for 27th pick.
Bulls trade Gasol, Hinrich, 22nd, 27th, 2017 first to Knicks for Galloway and #4
Knicks trade 22, 27, Calderon to Hawks for Teague, 2017 first.
Hawks trade 15, 22, 27 to Memphis for Marc Gasol (sign and trade)
Hawks:
Schroder - Calderon - Mack
Korver - Baze - Sef
Carroll - Sef - Korver
Horford - Muscala - Carroll
Marc - Horford - Muscala
Super unrealistic. But I think every team would consider (rather than outright reject) every trade listed. Just obviously odds of any of them happening are slim, much less ALL of them.
For a less-convoluted answer? Renounce rights to Millsap, Brand, Antic to open up cap space. Sign Marc or Deandre. Resign Carroll.

Get bigger. you can't win with their front line. Not in the playoffs. Sad but true. Millsap is a ****ing monster, but he can't ball inside, especially not with Horford. If they got a PF that could help... like say somehow ATL got AD then they would be good2go.
They need one more big, someone who can really get in there and control the paint. I don't see anyone like that up for grabs. They could probably enjoy one of those young bigs like Gobert or Whiteside but again, who is giving them up? I'd keep Millsap at the 4 and get rid of Horford, but I think they have to trade one of them.
It was like the old jazz trying to win with Okur and Boozer.

Can you or kshutts1 think of any realistic trade idea that would send Noah to the Hawks in exchange for Milsap? Does either team get better from that trade? Or should Milsap be traded to a 3rd team and the Bulls get something else in return?

I'm not a fan of the Gasol/Millsap front line. Zero D. Not to mention Millsap is a FA.
The offensive versatility, however, with those two and Mirotic is bonkers.

Interesting. Truthfully I am not that aware of Milsaps defense, or lack of. Do you feel like the Bulls truly need a strong defensive Center. I certainly do. I just decide if getting a really tough defensive SF is more important.

Not to hijack a Hawks thread, lol, but I really like Noah. I think he had a down year due to injuries and potentially being emotionally drained by Thibs' intensity.
He's Marc Gasol without the scoring ability. Unless we get a Deandre-type shot blocker, Noah's the best defensive center we can hope for. He pairs well with Mirotic, IMO (and Gasol, but I want him gone as I'm sure you've read in Bulls forum).
My opinion of Millsap, with admittedly limited time watching him play, is that he's undersized and unathletic from a defensive standpoint. He has quick hands, but if we're getting rid of our best post defender, I don't want a big with "quick hands". I want someone with size and length and energy and shot blocking. Jo brings all of that except the blocking.
Get a superstar (or two).
Can't win with a bunch of roleplayers. Someone's gotta take charge at some point.

Like the 2011 Mavs.
You have your clear superstar + awesome ball movement and 3 point shooting.

Get a real center. I'm pretty sure Horford is sick of playing undersized 5 all these years. May solve his injury issues too.
Have to resign Millsap even if just to stash him on the bench. Make him like Big Nasty. If he won't accept the role then trade him for something.

They should sign Shumpert and JR Smith.

Trade Teague for a big man and start Schroeder. Teague is way too inconsistent, some days he looks like a legitimate all-star and then some days he looks like a 3rd string point guard. Not to mention, Schroeder has a higher ceiling at this point, he's longer, makes his layups more often than Teague, and already has a better shot. As for big man, if Chicago is trying to rebuild which is possible, I think the Hawks should go for Noah. Yes exactly what they need and not to mention he'll be beside his college teammate Al Horford.
