It was taken 16 years ago. In your opinion is it racist? Or just in poor taste?

One of the cops was sentenced to 12 years for leading a rogue band of cops who robbed drug dealers, and put a hit out on another cop he thought was a rat.

That's really, really bad. Fired at the least.

For the photo alone, I'd have to know a little more, like what the antler guy thought of it at the time. Then depending on that I'd say a suspension at most. But as a piece of evidence in conjunction with the other information you mention, then yeah, he should be fired, and charged and if convicted sent to prison for a really long time.

I don't believe the fired cop was affiliated in any way with the other rogue cops illegal activities. He apparently was held in high regard with his peers. The vote to fire over suspension was very close, 5-4.

with that explanation i'd probably say no.

but given today's climate of everything white people do that has a black person involved being racist then i'm not surprised.

No.

It was 16 years ago

The antler guy was obviously in on it.

He's not in uniform.

Was probably just a goofy picture taken amongst friends. If the black guy was in a gorilla suit then I'd probably have a different reaction.

Black people should be more appalled that the antler guy would submit himself to such atrocities.

Between 12-16 years ago. Why are people just going with the latest possible?

He was arrested. For all we know, he was doing whatever he could to stay on their good side.

16 years after the fact, an obvious joke... no it should have never become an issue

This. There's literally zero anything in that pic suggesting any racial condescension. The guy is wearing antlers and making a face like he was just picked off by hunters who are holding the hunting rifles. Thats the kind of silly pic 3 friends of any race might take.

When are we going to stop cannibalizing ourselves for the sake of political correction? Maybe when people like deucewallace and boozehound stop tying their entire social identity to being the guy who thinks he looks smart by whining about even the most frivolous infractions of it. Maybe once those losers get hobbies, then this wont be such a big deal.

Til then... :facepalm

Poor taste but no, shouldn't be fired over something that didn't harm anyone 16 years ago.

The black guy was a drug suspect. Spend all the time you took typing that shit reading the story next time.

The black guy was a drug suspect these cops arrested for having 20 bags of weed. The suspect said that he'd tell the cops where to find some stolen rifles and hunting gear, if they'd let him go. So when he lead the cops to the hunting stuff, they brought it back to the station and had this photo taken. The cops kept their word and never booked the man for a crime. It is unclear who took the photo or why the cops were out of uniform.

The black guy was a drug suspect. Not one of their friends. Read the story.

Are you kidding?

How is this even a conversation? This is way out of bounds. You can't have police behaving like this towards citizens.

I did read the story. What does him being a drug dealer have anythin to do with race?

Hes wearing antlers and they have hunting rifles. Thats clearly the parody of the pic. Ive done that kinda shit with friends before. Theres nothing racial there. Sorry. I know you try hard AF to see everything as racial, so you have an excuse to complain about something easy, since complex topics are too tough for your peabrain, but usually you end up looking like a jackass.

I could go either way on this. It was 16 years ago and the one officer *is now a decorated veteran, but they did take the photo on police property with a drug suspect.

*correction: WAS a decorated veteran cop

This is fine and fair if thats the policy, but the police superintendent himself said it was about the racial connotations of the pic that he was fired.

Thats just :facepalm

Ok, let's assume race has nothing to do with anything.....

You still think its acceptable for police to force a citizen to pose for humiliating pictures like this?

I didn't even look at it as a race thing... I don't want to be humiliated by police like that do you?

The other cop's name was Jerome. So does he get a pass on the racism?

But I don't right? lol

No but the superintendent responsible for canning the guy explained it as a racially inappropriate thing. That was the justification HE used for the firing. Which is bogus.
