It's interesting because one of the best ways to compare Kobe & MJ is to see how they looked from a physical standpoint against the same defenders and how they performed.

Ray Allen is probably the best example I can think of to use.. He played Kobe pretty tough - Kobe still dropped him off, but Ray really made him work very hard.. And the two players look like they are about the same size with similar speed/quicknes, which is part of the reason Kobe had to work so hard.

Otoh, MJ had a bigger bone structure than Kobe, so he towered over Ray - Ray looked like a shrimp next to MJ in 1998 (when Ray averaged 20/5/4).. So unlike Kobe, MJ was able to brush off the smaller Ray Allen like a flea and dominate him like Ray was a high school player - Ray didn't make MJ work AT ALL to get 45 points - the easiest 45 on Ray Allen ever:
