He just has good memories of carrying Kobe to 3 championships, while he spent just one season in Cleveland as a corpse of himself.

That doesn't even make sense. Shaq would get easier buckets with LeBron, and would have to work harder playing with Kobe (grabbing rebounds).

Anyway Shaq played with both, in their respective primes, so he outta know.

:lol

But honestly, Shaq acknowledges, like everyone else does, that the triangle is awesome and at least Kobe can play within the triangle. Shaq knows he'll get his touches and get the ball where he likes. He knows where his shots will come from. Lebron probably couldn't play in the triangle because everything runs through him, hence the term "Lebron ball". He also sees how Love didn't really get the ball in the posts this year. Role players play best with Lebron if they're pretty much perimeter oriented. While Kevin Love can shoot, he can also play inside.

Bron stans gonna avoid this thread like the plague.

The best part is Shaq didn't even play with peak Kobe. He's basing this off '96-04 Kobe. And is taking that version of Kobe over prime LeBron.

Brutal L for the LeBron family. :oldlol:

Plus Kobe is clearly a more perimeter-oriented guy than Lebron, this is a better fit with Shaq.

Either way, the article is meh

Wrong on both accounts Silk. Kobe was a top 10 player and the best SG in the NBA in 2000, and a top 2-3 player in 2001 and 2002 and the Co-MVP of the last 2 titles, therefore he was not "carried." Shaq, although past his prime and obviously no longer as dominating as he once was in Cleveland, was an All-Star the year before joining the Cavs. Shaq could still give you 15-18ppg and 8-10rpg in 20-25 minutes every night. He was still a presence on defense and an enforcer, brought to the Cavs specifically to neutralize Dwight. In fact, after signing Antwon Jamison and Shaq, it was pretty much a forgone conclusion that the Cavs were a lock for the title or at the very least we'd finally get a LeBron vs Kobe Finals.

This is kind've stupid. You Kobe fans shouldn't need any reaffirmation of Kobe's greatness. Shaq is just one person. Of course he'd probably pick Kobe. Doesn't change the fact that most people who aren't stans of Kobe or Lebron would say Lebron is a better overall player. This is not news.

So as much as you guys want to clown the Lebron stans. Its not a good reflection on you guys either because it feels like you guys are constantly looking for reasons that Kobe is better and you guys side with whoever makes you feel that he is. Half the Kobe fans can't stand Shaq and I bet they will be right in this thread like "herp, derp, see Shaq said, told you Kobe is the bestest"!!!

Its stupid, its so stupid. Did I mention that I hate stans?(not calling you a stan, don't know if you are or not, I don't think you are).

Shaq basically stating the obvious. Kobe's proven more, and at this stage, can be trusted more too.

I have Kobe @ 8 or 9 all-time. LeBron is right there w/ Hakeem at 10 or 11.

Well Lebron need more spacing, due to his style, and thats something Shaq couldn't give for obvious reasons.

So Kobe fit better, despite LJ being a better player IMO.

I agree with this. Lebron has a chance though to move up to #7 POSSIBLY #6.

The best part is Shaq didn't even play with peak Kobe.

Shaq played with an 18-25 year old Kobe. He played with a 25 year old LeBron for 1 season. So he didn't get to see either player's peak. And who he picked doesn't say much of anything. He played with Kobe for 8 seasons and won 3 championships with him. He's not going to pick a guy he played with for 1 season over him. Players are always more loyal to the guy they played with and Shaq kinda admits to as much himself
"I played with both of them," O'Neal said. "You know, Kobe has that killer instinct. And I'd probably have to go with Kobe. That's not a knock against LeBron. It's just that I know Kobe and I played with him longer. I've seen what he can do."

Shaq's a huge believer in LeBron, btw. His last autobiography, Shaq Uncut, came right after the 2011 Finals when LeBron's stock was at an all time low. Shaq talks about all 4 perimeter superstars he played with in it - Penny, Kobe, Wade and LeBron. When he gets to LeBron, I was completely taken aback by how assured Shaq was in his greatness. He feigned some mild disappointment/surprise over LeBron's 2011 collapse, but saw no detrimental shortcomings in his game that would prevent him from winning in the future. And it would've been very easy to do so too considering the 2011 finals had just concluded. In fact, he basically talked about the same things he did today - that LeBron does have a killer instinct, can and absolutely will take over a game if necessary, and that he was the smartest of 'em all - someone who had already figured everything out about the game. I was totally taken aback by how much he believed in LeBron.

What Shaq is trying to say in this interview is that he values players who can rely on themselves.

He responded to the question of MJ or Lebron by saying that Mike is like Kobe in that they both have the drive and initiative to get it done and that you need someone like that on the team to players can play off them when it's needed and elevate their greatness.

With Lebron, it's like his teammates are extensions of himself or tools. They need to make cuts and get to their spots. With MJ and Kobe, they let other players do their thing. Kobe never made Pau a role player and always fed Pau the ball in the post because that's Pau's strength. MJ let Scottie be the primary ball handler and facilitator, something MJ was accustomed to being.

With Lebron, he makes his teammates extensions of his game. Look what Kyrie, Love, Wade, and Bosh were all capable of before playing with Lebron. Look at their numbers while playing with Lebron. Watch games from how they were accustomed to playing before and what they were asked to do while playing with Lebron.

Lebron's style works, don't get me wrong. He won two titles with it. It's the same style that Magic plays with. It's just preference.

Didn't shaq point out Killer Instinct when he made this comment... Shaq believes Kobe was better cuz of his killer instinct.. If I made the decision between both players I would pick Lebron if I needed a leader and all around player but I would pick Kobe if I needed to win games with scoring and making shots...

At this point Kobe has to be rated over Lebron in most peoples book.. At least the guys who acknowledge Kobe's greatness... It is gettting close though and if Lebron wins this year its a wrap..
