soccer

football requires a lot more script and repetition of that script to execute it in a play.

soccer is more free flowing persistent, therefore requires more team work.

Soccer.

American football seems very targeted towards focusing on your task at hand. There needs to be a lot more synergy for a soccer team to be successful than a football team. Not that it isn't necessary in football, but soccer you are constantly interacting and passing among teammates.

Hard to say because both takes a great deal of teamwork. There are 11 guys in soccer and a total of 22 players in the NFL, offense and defense. Therefore you do rely a lot more on the other 11 than just the 11 on the field together.

Soccer is relying on 11 players where the NFL relies on the 22 and their coaches too. The coaches play a big part during game days in the NFL. The game is a coaching and strategy based game. Soccer is more improvising.

They're so completely different, even comparing them on this level is tricky. It's true that American football is all about individuals performing their specific goal-oriented tasks if you look at it in a bubble. But, it's also about timing those individual tasks in perfect synchronization with your teammates. If that block is a little too soon or a little too late or if the running back cuts up-field a tenth of a second too early/late, it will throw the entire play into disarray.

On defense, if your blitz isn't timed perfectly, any player worth his salt is going to make you pay for it.

Soccer also has all of the timing elements obviously.

They're both very team-oriented, although I will say this... two players being on the same page on a soccer field could result in a beautiful goal. To score a long touchdown in football, be it a run or a pass, the quarterback, running back, offensive line and wide receivers all need to be a part of it.

You can have the greatest offensive player in NFL history, but if he plays with a shoddy offensive line, quarterback, defense, etc., his team will stand no chance.

Not saying that's not the case in soccer, but American football really is not about the individual athlete.
