Is the title missing a word? It sounds like Sly Stone was a fan of Jimmy Rodgers (https://youtu.be/qEIBmGZxAhg?t=150).

What's up with the vocal mix? You think they buried the vocals and threw the bass up front to minimize the fact he's doing a country song?

Also someone in the back just did an Ah-HA! which is a Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys thing.

That's what I figured. I once did a job in a record studio in NJ and the owner said Sly Stone once booked the studio. I can't say he recorded there because he spent most of the time freebasing in the bathroom.
