View Full Version : Timberwolves should try to go after Al Horford

The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to pick Karl Towns #1 in the draft.
We already know what Towns can do, he's a beast on defense, he's a beast on the boards, and he has range all the way out to the 3pt line.
Right now we know the future of the Timberwolves will be centered around Adam LaVine,Andrew Wiggins, and Karl Towns.
That's a crazy athletic core.
I feel that after next season, the Timberwolves should clear as much cap space as they can (that means getting rid of anyone not named LaVine,Wiggins,or Towns), and going hard after Al Horford.
LaVine and Wiggins will be going in to their third season which is around the time players tend to break out and dominate, Towns will be going in to his second, and Al Horford will be at the peak of his career at 29 years old.
Al Horford will have a good 4-5 years worth of gas in his body to compete for a championship.
Wiggins/Horford/Towns front court would be so long, dominant, athletic, and annoying.
Both Horford and Towns can spread the floor for Wiggins since they both have range on their jumpers, and not only that but these 2 big guys are can hit their free throws.
That team would be a pain in the ass on both ends on the floor and the only thing they would need to compete for a championship is a good coach to help it all mold in together.
What you guys think?
Towns
Horford
Wiggins
LaVine

Really though, I cant see the Hawks saying yes to this. Why would Al say yes to this ?
Timberwolves should just let their young guys plays and get another high lottery pick, then start slowly adding veterans.

He's saying after next season, when Al would be an unrestricted FA, they should try to sign him.
The Wolves will have an intriguing core, but they'd be bucking history by attracting any All-Star FA in his prime.

Hawks have no say. He's a free agent

I think it's a good sign but it doesn't have to be Al. This could be made with any good PF/C who can defend and hit jumpers. I'm just a little concerned about people's desire to live in Minneapolis.

On a serious note- are they bringing over Bjelica? Isn't he better than Bennett, Payne, and Dieng? I want to see a frontline of Wiggins-Bjelica-Towns.
Horford would be a great addition, but I doubt that he would go to a squad that would be so early in their presumed rise.

Horford has NEVER in his entire career played next to a good center.
The Hawks have actually used him very poorly and if Horford played for a better organization he would be considered better than what people think he is.
Due to the Hawks having Josh Smith for most of Horford's career, he's been forced to play out of position at center.
I feel like given the opportunity to play alongside a top center, play his natural position, and play with his fellow countryman and Team DR teammate (Towns) he would jump on it.
Towns and Horford would be such a skilled front court its scary. Literally no weaknesses. No tradeoffs.
A lot of teams like pairing a defensive center and a offensive stretch 4, but with Horford and Towns both guys are defensive beasts and both guys can stretch the floor.

I didn't refute what you said. I'm just being realistic about the chances that he signs there. Is he going to want to sign with a team that likely won't make the playoffs in the WC? He can sign with a team that has a better shot at contending next summer.
I brought up Bjelica because they actually own his NBA rights and he was recently awarded Euroleague MVP... If I were running the T-Wolves, I'd focus on bringing him over this summer and seeing what he's got.
