2. lots of girls are on there just to inflate their ego. just want to see how many matches they get

This is very good advice. Don't be boring (i.e. "hey") or crude. Just because they may be a good match for you based on the app's methodology does not mean they will be interested in you. I have somewhat similar experience to the OP; most girls will not respond, but there are definitely some who will. Also remember some of them may not even be real girls. Finally, talk about common interests you may have. Being funny usually appeals to many of these girls, at least they say so on the site I use.


I can't really tell you an infallible method to get responses (still working on it m'self), but some of the things I wrote above have helped me.
