what if lebron dominates but cavs lose, like vs orlando in 2009. Say he posts crazy stats like 35-12-9 per series and he gets FMVP.
Would you rate such a "jerry west" fmvp over a ring?

Is it even possible to win Finals MVP if your team loses? I would assume that FMVP would go to someone on the winning team, regardless of how great a player on the losing team performed.

That's just never going to happen. Imo it'd take literally the GOAT Finals performance as well as no one from the winning team even having a pretty good series for that to happen. And even then it probably still wouldn't happen.

It could happen if...
LeBron averages 36/11/8 first 3 games and Cavs go up 3-0. In game 4, they are up 90-72 at beginning of 4th quarter and LeBron is dominating again. Then he tears his ACL, Cavs blow the lead and the game, and then lose 3 more to lose the series.
And people would still say "2/6" :oldlol:

He should have won FMVP last year if it goes to the best player in the finals... but it goes to best player on the winning team.

If it did not happen last year, when he was clearly the best player in the series and nobody on the Spurs stood out, it won't happen this year when Curry is bound to stand out amongst the Warriors.
The media was actually saying Kobe should be awarded FMVP even if the Lakers had lost game 7 in 2010. 30/7/4/2 56 TS% through 6 games.

Lebron put up 28/8/4/2 on 68 TS%... shows what media hype can do.
