So I receive this Windows 10 free upgrade sign. I currently have Windows 7.
What's up with it? Is windows 10 truly free?
AFAIK, nothing is truly "free" in life. I know how Apple does it -- you can't do much on the iPad without buying apps. You get "free" Apple OS with the ipad, but they make back that money by forcing users to buy expensive apps to have more functionality even for basic stuff. Is that the path Microsoft is taking with Windows 10?? :confusedshrug:

It's free. The catch is, you HAVE to be an early adopter.
Eventually, they're going to start charging for it like all their other OS's.

Yes, it's free. They're trying to recover from the debacle that was Windows 8. Microsoft has put all it's egg in the Windows 10 basket, and are hoping that they can use Windows 10 on desktops to convert people into Windows 10 phone/tablet users as well. There's really no other way for them to compete in the handheld OS market against Apple and Google without taking this approach.
Yeah. They're basically hoping any income comes from the AppStore lol.

Just plugged in my email for registration. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to send the confirmation email?

I signed up. I like Windows 8. I feel sorry for anyone stuck with that RT version though.

Cool. I never knew this existed, but I've gotten used to the app menu by now. Windows netflix app is solid, I prefer it over the PS4 even.

I wanna see reviews for it until I sign up. Windows 8 was trash, and if 10 is too, I'll stick with Windows 7.

I run Windows 7 on my main machine and work laptop, but I have a Windows 8 2-in-1 and also I put the Windows 10 tech preview on a machine.
Honestly there is very little difference between the three operating systems. You can use Windows 8 and pretty much completely avoid live tiles if you hate them so much.
You should be mounting your frequently used programs to the taskbar anyways, which more or less eliminates the need for the start menu even on Windows 7.
Workspaces is a nice addition in Windows 10 that has been sorely missing from Windows.
Haven't played with Spartan browser yet or Cortana.

Except for the added backdoors in the latter versions.

All my laptops that I've bought in the last 2 years have come with Windows 8, otherwise I hate this shit. Making me miss Windows 7 :( I know you can downgrade with some tinkering, but I couldn't be bothered. The future is coming, it's time to accept it.

There's a backdoor to absolutely everything.

Thing is...idk if I WANT windows 10. What if it's like Vista? Right now windows 7 is great and it's compatible with all my games. I don't want to lose that just because of a free upgrade.
You ask me it's a piece of shit. Trying so dam hard with graphical this graphical that. What the fck happened to simplicity. Windows XP was the best.

I would love to upgrade, but too many problems with software just upgrading to 8.1; I can only imagine going from 7 to 10.
