http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/where-this-years-cavs-rank-among-lebrons-nba-finals-supporting-casts/

Just shows what everybody with a brain already knew:

Jordan has 3 of the top 6 best supporting casts.
Lebron has 3 of the bottom 8 worst supporting casts.

Lebron's 2015 Cavs supporting cast is only slightly better than his 2007 supporting cast.

If Lebron wins a ring, it will be one of the greatest achievements of all time by a star player in terms of carrying the load of a comparatively weak team.

So Lebron can't win with great teammates or bad teammates.

Good to know.

He makes great teammates... ok, and bad teammates... ok.

We all knew that.

Cavs +12.5 points per 48 possessions this post season with LeBron on the bench. Stacked beyond belief. If he loses, out of the top 30 without question.

nice try OP

So.....

All those arguments I had with everyone about the 11 Heat....yea...not a good look for you clowns.

11 Heat rank near the top in supporting cast for Lebron...

And the 13 and 14 Heat near the bottom.

LOL....guess 538 has an agenda as well.

The 11 Heat remain one of the most under-rated teams in terms of talent ever. If Lebron doesn't go ghost and the Mavs don't employ a genius strategy on defense...and Dirk/Terry going nuts in close games...it's a blood bath

Similarly....those 13 and 14 Heat team were just not that good around Lebron. The only reason the 13 Heat won was because Parker got hurt and played horribly...and the Spurs choked.

This certainly isn't the end all be all or anything like that...and I disagree with some things on there...but isn't a good look for people claiming that the 13 Heat were better around Lebron because of depth and such.

Not shocking at all. LeBron's supporting cast is made up of role players that were picked up from s.hitty teams and a hobbled Irving.

The 2011 Heat was the only version where all 3 were more or less fit or on fire. Unfortunately, it was also the year where they were the least cohesive and the Mavs - while an inferior team in terms of personnel - played much better as a unit and beat them.

At the end of the day it's only 7 games (max) and it is a relatively small sample; despite it being such an important series.

I saw this chart a few days ago, and I didn't catch it then or now... what system are they using to rank players? Is it 100% "leverage- and minute-weighted plus minus"? What is leverage plus minus?

Yea, I actually have the 12 Heat as good or better if fully healthy.

But the 13 and 14 Heat were not good teams in the playoffs really. Both of those teams would have gotten murked by the 11 Mavs.

I'm not sure what leveraged plus/minus is either.

how are the talent rating and teammate ratings measured?

OP, MJ led the 91 Bulls, ranked #53rd best team on that list, to a title, averaging a double double

Meanwhile, Bran led the 14 Heat, ranked just two spots lower at #55, to the most lopsided Finals defeat in NBA history :confusedshrug:

Two spots make THAT much of a difference :lol

Stupid list, you can take and make any argument or push any agenda when you throw context out of the window. It's a list simpletons would love, not surprised OP posted this.

This also puts into perspective how massive LeBron's "choke" was in 2011 was. Sheesh.

So basically, Jordan won 2 championships with worse supporting casts than the 2 Lebron won with.

Cool.
