When asked where all these money have gone, the response was "I do not know"

Stories like this leak every year. People continue to donate billions to the Red Cross every year and say things like "Yeah, but Red Cross is the charity that actually helps people.":hammerhead:
I stopped giving to charity after I worked in the charity sector and saw how the money was being spent.

How much does it cost to build a home in Haiti? I did the math.
500/6 = 83.33333
So each home was $83.33 million  They livin well

I'm sick of hearing about these non-profit organizations exploiting people. The worst part is that most of the organizations only have to pay a fine, and are allowed to keep operating. These people should be locked up in prison. Exploiting disasters and people with deadly diseases to scam money from people is straight up disgusting.

Charity organizations like this probably praying for natural disasters year after year.

it's not surprising that a large organization like the red cross is bad at allocating funds. i'm sure there were inefficiencies all over the place.
but it should be understood where the starting point was for the people in haiti. it's a pretty f*cked up place. which is unsurprising given its history. it's been the poorest country in the western hemisphere for like 25 years. there are caste like systems that prevent social mobility. sexism is extreme and corruption is rampant and the politics have been subject to foreign intervention for over 200 years. the great mass of the population was already more or less dependent on charity for survival even before the earthquake, which only exacerbated all of these structural problems.
water access, basic preventative health and hygiene concerns, food first and foremost given the land system there, ensuring that whatever is erected isn't brought down in the same way by the next great earthquake which won't necessarily take its sweet old time. the point is that certain things needed to be attended to before you just start constructing permanent residences. the glaring headline of "ONLY SIX HOUSES" is a bit of a misnomer.
that said, the report is presumably accurate in many ways. i would expect we'll be hearing a response. the red cross is old and big. it's subject to the same forces everything else is and they have their effect. maybe this is exactly the kind of report that will whip it into shape? :confusedshrug:

Stop making excuses, scrub. Bottom line-Red Cross is corrupt as phuck. I hope you haven't given money to them in the past. If you have, don't give these scumbags any more.

way too many quality places to put money than to throw it at a massively campaigned disaster relief fund that already rakes it in anyway
though they did give me my first aid certificate
where do you invest your money toward your concerns nick? or do you just spend it on whichever flavour of the month you're repping to stand for something serious before you drop the charade like you eventually do with everything in your life?

I don't spend any of my money on charity. I used to work in the charity sector. I know first hand how hardly any of the money raised actually goes towards the cause. It's a scam industry.

Don't libertarian anarcho capitalists free market conservatives want the world to be run by charities and insurance companies? Lol.

I've once watched the full documentary on it.
The main idea was that none of those organizations wanted to do the dirty work, everybody only wanted to do the work that is good publicity. For example, nobody wanted to clear all the rubble left after the disaster - one of the key issues there. Everybody wanted to build schools and look good in the media... Nobody wanted to coordinate with others or listen to the Haitian government - since they are not the ones holding the money they barely had a say in the matter. All ended with many jobs being done in waste, for example, some canal got cleaned up many times but because there was no follow-up it got filled up with dirt again as the next rain came.
It is ridiculous and paradoxic, but it teaches us a lesson. We have a saying "two babysitters - child without a head". Definitely, too many helping hands could mess up the whole deal.

Especially when the helping hands don't actually exist to help...
