Because the white teachers don't give them the benefit of doubt.

Why doesnt the whole world change the schooling ciriculum.... seriously schooling is designed to make all children employees. An education system that was set up for the industrial age.

Its tough. Most people tend to stick with whatever they know growin up. Theres a lot of poor white people out there who grew up poor and just got a simple rural job and kept on goin. Most kids from middle class backgrounds grow up middle class. Rich kids usually grow up rich. Obviously some people from each group will invent something or work their way to the top, but in the overall population its pretty rare. Most people stick with what they know. Bc US has such a history of immigration tho you do get some cultures who came here specifically looking to succeed, and that culture often gets passed down. Blacks were brought here en masse as slaves, and kept down economically for a long time after emancipation. Now obviously thereslots of opportunity for them but very little cultural pressure to convert it.

The history and the reasons dont really matter at this point. Black peoples fault, white peoples fault, doesnt really make a difference. Question is where to go from here. The actual solution is not going to jive with liberal/aclu idealism of just throwing money at schools, stepping back, and saying "you go black people!"

Youd either have to stringently enforce curfews and job requirements and all sorts of hands-on regulation of their lives, or simply prevent a fair number of the worst performers from having kids. Either way liberals will scream and fight against the solution, while continuing to complain about the problem.

I don't get it either, but I agree that if you grow up middle class etc you will more than likely grow up to be that. But you have people from other cultures that grow up dirt poor in some instances and they emphasize education to their children. They understand the importance of a good education. The importance of hard work. Pride.

because their role models are rappers, athletes, and singers. and they're damn good at that.

books are kryptonite to 20%~ of blacks.

everyone pretends studying and education is easy and everyone just has to do it, but lets be real, its hard as fukk to have long sit at a desk and study at home work ethic to overachieve in that medium than playing sports, dancing, singing, etc. it takes a lot of discipline for very long term pay offs.

most other things come easier and more enjoyable.

Better questions are why do the prepubescent psuedo sociologists on this site act like Blacks are a monolith... and why are they so obsessed with Black people... to the point that they spend all day everyday literally worshipping Black athletes? :confusedshrug:

you seem offended...

just answer the question. why didn't you get a college degree instead of trying to get rich and famous by being an actor?

legit curious my brother. btw, im black. but the op makes a good point about our people not holding education in higher regard.

its about the culture that black men have created for their kids. 70s and 80s was all about partying, fighting the white man for power, and rise of drugs and gang banging. thats why many of the 90's kids born dont have father figures. either dead, in jail, homeless or not into responsibility. These kids have to grow up with that kind of culture that is seen as being norm so that is their standard. But as the black community progress, you will see education being a large emphasis in their community, and it is very much starting to.

thats pathetic bro, what have you been doing with your life? every day you keep thinking its to late is another day that you could have done something to get somewhere in life. If you had spend the last 6 years learning how to produce music on your own accord, you could have been making a living doing it already.

honestly, you have to think of something you want to do with your life. then do it, and every day from then to the point you get to your goal, is a day worth living. start living you pathetic boy.

:lol

IMO, many reasons. (obviously everyone is an individual, but I am just generalizing overall)

Firstly, Americans dont emphasize education overall. I have worked several years in asian in the past. The level of emphasis on education (at least among well off families in big cities) far surpasses what I have seen in america among white people.

Further asian americans (south asian and east asians) are far more demanding of their children to succeed academically than the average american. And more importantly there is peer pressure to succeed academically. Dumb kids are looked down upon.

Among americans (white, black and latino) there is strong peer pressure against excelling academically (nerd stereotypes etc). Kids/people try to conform to what their peers except of them. In most cases it is a false that parents are the biggest influence on their children's choices. In most cases it is peer expectation.

The way to gain peer acceptance among most american youth, is athletic achievement, physical beauty, stylish clothing, popular music, etc. If the entire culture emphasize this, how can we expect kids to emphasize education?

For black youth in particular their is additional barriers
1. studies have shown that 2 equal resumes (in terms of education and job experience) will fair differently depending on whether the name on the resume is stereotypical black or white. Eg. Sean Mcguinness or Mark Chambliss would get more call backs than LeSean Jackson or JaMarcus Russell.
2. because of historical realities, it is more likely for white kids to have role models (uncles, parents, etc) in various educational fields, than black kids.
