NEW YORK (AP) The NBA Finals' Game 1 has drawn its highest television rating since the series moved to ABC in 2003.
The Golden State Warriors' overtime victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night averaged a 10.6 rating.
ESPN said Friday that the nearly 17.8 million viewers were up 21 percent from the almost 14.7 million for last year's opener between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.
Ratings represent the percentage of U.S. homes with televisions tuned to a program.

off course a finals where Lebron is expected to lose is gonna draw major ratings. Everyone wants to see him choke and lose.

All of the most watched games this postseason have featured Cleveland. And Miami the previous 4 seasons. LeBron's just an incredible draw. People are obsessed with him.

the fvck? It was boring as hell. You couldn't even hear the crowd since ESPN's commentary seems to completely drown it out. Felt like preseason until the 4th quarter.

San Jose-San Fran-Oakland area is over 8 million in population and there's a lot of people watching in Los Angeles too.

So this isn't that much of a shocker.

The Warriors aren't really a "small market" team.

It was terrible. I watched the end of the 4th. I had better things to do.

Damn. Curry bringing relevancy back into the NBA :applause:

Guess that's what a highly marketable player will do for you.

Hawks-cavs gave better ratings than gsw-rockets (it's an interesting information to consider if you are not trolling with that comment)

lebron has the distinct honor of playing in the lowest rated finals series ever..

also the most watched finals since Jordan have featured Kobe..

So? Hawks-Cavs, Bulls-Cavs gave better ratings than Warriors-Grizzlies and Warriors-Rockets. With that, we can safely conclude that Cavs are the reason why the ratings are so good.

And the Kobe part of your post has nothing to do with the topic. :facepalm

exactly the way i feel as well..........ESPN always turns down the crowd noise, and turn the volume of their shitty commentators up.........TNT sound mix is way better, on TNT and local FOX stations you can hear the crowd and court noises much better

ratings have been down in the NBA finals for the past 5 years, ever since 2010 they've continually gone down.. but yeah.. the Cavs are driving in the ratings :lol :lol

Wasn't 2010 Celtics vs Lakers? Am I missing something or is LA the biggest market after New York?
If lebron played for the Lakers, rating would be even higher. If 2010 Celtics vs Lakers happened in the 90s then it would get better tv ratings than 96-98 finals.
Pretty easy logic if you are not biased.

You are lying. 2013 had better average ratings than 2012.

Through 6 games, 2011 had better ratings than 2010. The only reason 2010 has better average ratings than 2011 is because 2010 went to 7 games. Otherwise, 2011 had better ratings. Even 2012 started better than 2010, I am pretty sure it had better ratings than 2010 through 5 games.

that logic might work if the 3 lowest rated finals in NBA history didn't feature 2 of the biggest markets in the NBA (Texas/Boston)

try again

2011 and 2012 had better ratings than 2010 through game 6 and game 5 respectively, the only reason why 2010 finished with better overall ratings was because it went to a close 7 games.
