'09 Cavs
G - Mo Williams
G - Delonte West
F - LeBron
F - Varejao
C - Big Z
6M - W. Szczerbiak

'15 Cavs
G - Dellavedova
G - Shumpert
F - LeBron
F - T. Thompson
C - Mozgov
6M - J.R. Smith

Is it just me or do both of these teams look very similar in terms of talent?

2015 by a nose. Way more athletic of a team than '09 and '10.

Although I admit I used to watch the Cavs quite often back then b/c they were one of the only few relevant teams from the East.

The '09 team is more talented, but they played like crap. This team is under talented but playing really well. At the end of the day, impact>talent though. Though this team's front line defense is significantly better, so that probably makes them a bit more valuable in playoff basketball.

Rather have 2009. Better LeBron too.

2010. You have two All-Star caliber players in Mo Williams and Antwan Jamison, Anderson Varejao who was a great 6th man and also made the All-Defensive 2nd team and Shaq, although past his prime was an All-Star in 2009 and could give you 15-18 PPG and 8-10 RPG in 20-25 minutes every night, was still a presence on defense and an enforcer brought in specifically to neaturlize Dwight, Big Z who was an All-Star at one point and still a serviceable big man and Parker who was the #1 3-point shooter in the NBA and some solid role players like Bobbie Gibson, Leon Powe, Danny Green etc.

Seriously though? Did anyone actually rate Mo Will as an all star? Dude clearly isn't at that level, just like Korver wasn't this year. He was almost a sympathy or political vote at that point. And Jamison sucked on the Cavs. Dude was taking as many shots as he was scoring points... Was the definition of inefficient.
Shaq sucked too. Absolutely useless on defense and was playing lazy at that point. Current Mozgov is better.

This 2015 team is better. Say what you want, but having Shaq at 38 and Jamison at 35 wasn't a great thing for them. Too many old players who play efficiently within themselves, and look to conserve energy on the court. This team has a bunch of talented young guys, and a bunch of non-talented ones who actually want to prove themselves and play flat out. No substitute for energy.

The 2015 team just swept the Hawks. What did the 2010 team do?

15 is better team but 09/10 had prime Lebron who was much more athletic and explosive then now heck some even argue those years being peak Lebron.

He was a 17ppg scorer at the point for years with the Bucks, and a knockdown 3pt shooter. Pretty much the perfect PG for the Cavs system. Great shooter. Was one of the best mid-range shooters in the league and a 40+% shooter from 3. And also a great FT shooter. When you have LeBron on your team, you gotta have guys who can knock down shots. And contrary to what some like to believe, Mo was also capable of creating his own offense, or for others. He's wasn't just a spot-up shooter like some people like to think. In '09, he carried the Cavs second unit when James was on the bench. You don't have multiple 40 and 30 point games when you're just a scrub spot-up shooter. You don't get to be in the All-Star game when you're just a scrub spot-up shooter.

And Jamison sucked on the Cavs.

He was an All-Star in 2008 and averaged 20/10 his last year before joining Cavs.:confusedshrug: and that was while having to share the ball with Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler in Washington. What happened?

As for Shaq, the season before playing with LeBron he was an All-Star averaging 18/8/2 60 FG%

The next season Shaq with LeBron looked so bad that nobody wanted to sign him during the off season but the Celtics decided to take a chance and sign him because of Perkins injury. He was actually playing pretty great in Boston before injuries caught up with him. (19
