Kobe isn't consensus top 10 so get his name out of there.

Anyway, Durant and Anthony Davis could get in there. Maybe Wiggins too.

And oh, Tim Duncan is still playing in the league and is at least top 8.

Durant only struggled badly with injuries this season, he still has a chance to be up there. Don't forget about Davis either. Other than that the only person that comes close is Curry but he's not even on that level IMO.

Unless he has a career ending injury next year and retires, Lebron will be on 99.9999% of peoples top 10 lists by the time he is done playing.

And the way things are going, he has a chance to be consensus top 7. And a chance to be on many peoples top 5 lists with a decent chance for top 3.

Hate to break the news to you. But it'd be best for you to hate on someone like Durant or Chris Paul or something because that'll be probably allow you to sleep better.

Based on right now they're very close to each other all time and a lot of people have Kobe a spot or two ahead. So to pretend that one is consensus and not the other is just you being a stupid stanley. Calling me the hater because I don't think either player is consensus? Gtfo :lol

2005 up 3-2 in the ECF vs the defending champs Pistons gets hurt Pistons win 4-3

2007 he has an MVP season until dislocates shoulder

shame he didnt have prime shaq to piggyback off of in his young 20's or else he'd have 5 titles by now.

without shaq kobe would've never won any rings.

sometimes its just a matter of luck. durant is the much better individual player regardless. lebron is far above kobe to the point where its not even a discussion.

Neither is a consensus top-10. They're both in the bottom tier with Hakeem, usually see 2/3 included on the majority of non-stan ISH lists.

Two players better than Kobe? Seriously? Jordan/Kareem, the two who seem to be the consensus 1/2 on top-10 lists. If you're interested in my personal list I can throw in the remaining 8 I have over Kobe (he's sitting at 11).

Yep he would be Consensus Top 10 without those injuries and Bron choking.

Also in 2007 the Heat would've definitely won the conference if he was healthy.

Autocorrect can be a bitch.

Anyway, here's my top 10.

1. Jordan
2. Kareem
3. Russell
4. Wilt
5. Duncan
6. Magic
7. Shaq
8. Bird
9. LeBron/Hakeem
10. Hakeem/LeBron

I've warmed to the idea of slotting Kobe in for Hakeem at 9/10 of late but I'm not there yet (assuming I actually get there). My first tier is the top 4, second tier is 5-7 (I've got Bird between the 2nd and 3rd), third tier is 9-11.

It takes time for people to get in that discussion.

There are certainly a couple top ten potential level talents but it's rarefied air for a reason. It takes everything coming together to be a legend of that magnitude.

So I would agree that no one outside my top 10 is close besides the inevitable rank of Lebron James. But there are certainly players who look to be threats to be in the discussion.

I'd rank Shaq over Wilt and Timmy, but it's close. Hakeem, while he had some amazing playoff runs (some better than Kobe's best), didn't do it as many times as Kobe did. Didn't have the longevity that Kobe had, accolades, etc.. I just can't rank him above either Kobe or LeBron.

I have a lot of respect for Duncan, his intangibles and leadership as well as the accolade advantage are enough to bump him over Shaq for me. I can absolutely understand ranking Shaq above him though.

Hakeem is an odd case for me. Yeah, he has two first option rings, same as LeBron/Kobe, but on the one hand he did it with less help than either and on the other he could only win during Jordan's two year hiatus. He's tiered with Kobe/LeBron so it's understandable to have either or both ranked above him. I've been reevaluating my list in general of late, seeming more plausible that I bump Hakeem to 11 at some point.

Curious, why do you rank Wilt over Duncan, Magic, Kobe, Shaq, Bird or even Hakeem?

Wilt is ranked so highly in some part due to his legacy/what other players have said about him, as I (and the vast majority of posters here) never saw him play. Incredibly dominating player (possibly the MDE relative to the rest of the league at the time) and an integral part of NBA history, he . It's a little difficult to explain but ranking him so high is in the same vein as ranking Gordie Howe highly in hockey; modern players would (imo) be better players than him but the legacy he established in the early history of the sport/league is worth a lot, at least to me. If anyone was to move above Wilt at some point it would probably be Duncan/Magic.

I hope that makes sense to some degree, it's a little difficult to explain. :oldlol:

People look at his stats and rank him as a GOAT candidate without looking at pace and minutes and with a heavy emphasis on regular season stats. If you look at his career in detail, especially in the playoffs where you can break it down game by game, he is the least impressive top 10 player. You also need to have a decent perspective on some of these numbers, can't just look at 30 rebounds and say "mind blowing game" when games had 150+ rebounds available. The main argument for him being top 5 is regular season stats, but that's flawed. Aside from playing in blowouts, this is a guy who was known to check the stat sheet at halftime and he was even known to have passed up easy shots to prove he could lead the league in assists in 1968.

Op has right on this one... and its really sad that we had the chance to witness two of the best 10 players of all time, and instead of being fans of both of them, and enjoying watching them play, we spent the whole time debating who is better, and hating on one or another. And since Kobes days are near the end, this actually makes me sad. Kobe was one of the most exciting players to watch, and so is Lebron. I dont think either Davis or Durant can be on their level. Maybe Wiggins but the time will tell.

Anthony Davis is already on pace to surpass both Kobe and LeBron all time. He's playing at an insanely high level and will likely have the highest PER in history next year, which is crazy.
