[QUOTE]Nate Robinson, Royce White, Brian Scalabrine and more than 40 other former NBA players will take part in a 97-team, single-elimination basketball tournament that rewards the winner with a $1 million prize.

But this isn't just any tourney

I like the idea.

I wish they had something like it at the all star game.

That sounds freaking awesome. 24 players total divided by 3 is 8 3-on-3 teams. Play to 21, with 2s and 1s. I'd watch that over the 3 point and skills challenge.

I think the players would be told not to go all out, but if a 3 on 3 tournament was being played, they would want to win.

I bet it'd be cool to see those games live. Probably have big crowds.

A friend of mine was in this tournament last year. He tried to reel in some ex-NBA talent but it mostly didn't work out (he had a cousin who's sister was apparently married to Corey Maggette, but no dice).

So armed with playing experience that ended in 8th grade, he and a group of his buddies (who had slightly more experience) and a pair of small college guys (one that played pro ball in South America) faced off against Russell Robinson, Smush Parker and Matt Bonner's brother in the first round of the tourney... and got destroyed.

In fact, Sports Illustrated actually did an article on them: http://www.si.com/college-basketball/2014/06/09/eberlein-drive-basketball-tournament-worst-team

I haven't talked to him too much about this year's team, but it looks like he tentatively reeled in Renaldo Balkman, Von Wafer and Rawle Marshall, haha.
