Don't know why Shaq would do that. His hands already look like they're bigger than MJ's hands, so no need for him to deflate balls.

He couldn't palm the ball like MJ though. His hands are weird, they're long but they aren't really wide. Players with wide hands tend to palm the ball the best.

I do not think this is much of a big deal. Each team approves the game ball prior to the jump and air pressure variation is a certainty from elementary school ball all the way up. Some players like overinflation, some like basketballs one step above flat, and others like a solid middle ground.

I always dug basketballs that were very slightly underinflated for the sake of my own grip. I had small hands to start and they'd become very dry during winter ball, so I needed any advantage I could get in that regard.
