Played Asylum a few years ago. Good shit. Had City too but never really played it much. Don't think I've ever gotten past the finding Dr. Freeze part at the very start.

I just finished a second run through Arkham City on New Game+. Really, really enjoyed that game.

I was stoked for Arkham Knight up until they tacked on an additional $40 if you want the actual full game. At this point, we're hitting the meat of summer here on the Cape and there's a million other things to spend $100 on. By the time all the DLC releases and the inevitable Game of the Year Edition is released for $50-$60, I'll be ready to fork up for it.

If the Arkham Knight ends up being The Joker, I'll start a riot.

Arkham Knight is $60. They've decided to also tack on a season DLC pass for an additional $40 that will include several additional pieces of the game's story content released over the following 6 months. So if you want the entire Arkham Knight experience, you pay $100.

If it was just multiplayer stuff, character skins or challenge maps they were adding in, I wouldn't have a beef...but in this case, they're adding in more of the game's actual story and making you pay more for it.

Getting great reviews so far. Some are saying the Batmobile is a very clunky and broken addition though.

Isn't everybody doing that?

Anyway, the best way to combat that is to buy the game right away for $60, finish it and sell it on ebay for ~$45, then buy the Game of the Year edition next year with all the extras included for $25.

I had figured as much. I imagine I'll only use it when I'm forced to.

Looking at reviews on Steam...

Apparently, three hours before release the minimum spec requirements to run the game were changed. Tons of people who preordered are getting constant crashes and bad rendering or can't run the game at all now; only people with top of the line rigs are getting anywhere and even they're having some issues.

Reviews for the console version are thus far pretty good...seeing a lot of similar feedback on the Batmobile being clunky and feeling a bit too GTA for this series, but its a good 12 hours of story content + 12 more hours of story added with the side missions and then the DLC on top of it. Awesome!

Definitely glad I waited on this; they have some shit to iron out and this gives me time for them to get some stabilizing patches in there and upgrade my rig before the end of the year (EQ Next looms...) I'll give it shot when winter rolls around.

I havent picked it up yet, but I am not really looking forward to the batmobile that much. First time I saw game play I knew it would be really clunky. I wont be able to play till this weekend, but Im excited

Do you like the games? Then you'll like this one. There is TOO much batmobile but it's not a game breaker (and the batmobile is generally fun so only when it gets really excessive does it pose a problem). I'm like 5 hours in, i think it's well worth it.

Don't bother with the DLC, the Harley One is garbage so i can't imagine the $40 package being worth it.

^^^ Agreed. I am not too far into it, only have like 1 hour to play it a day, but there is a lot of batmobile in it that you're forced to use. So far I think its the best in the Arkham trilogy, cant wait to play it more this weekend

I've been enjoying it. I still don't think it matches up to the first game which IMO was the best of the series so far. I like the addition of the Batmobile, however it's tedious when you have to use it to carefully navigate round some precarious platforms. It could also do with having 60 FPS, when driving round and tearing up Gotham you really notice the drop. I bought the standard edition too, the little DLC content you get for the additional asking price isn't worth it. The missions are usually just an after thought and poorly constructed.

Just got mine on Saturday and had to spend the requisite few hours installing.

I played for a little bit. I fear I'm just not in the mood, and while I enjoyed both of the other games, they never really grabbed me.

I actually agree with step_back that the first one is probably my favorite. I liked the wider angle, the way the map sort of opens up on itself. And the combat felt so revolutionary and fresh at the time.

I got it on Saturday and played for about 4 hours. Apparently I'm at 11% completion. Liking the story so far and the map looks pretty big. Nothing revolutionary about the combat here obviously, but I really like the new fear takedown feature. Also love being able to eject out of the Batmobile and go straight through a window to knock someone out.

I have mixed opinions about the Batmobile so far. It's annoying to use when you're trying to chase someone down and aiming with it sucks without upgrades. But I really like the puzzle nature of it, having to figure out how to use the Batmobile to progress the mission is definitely fun. Also it's nice to be able to control it remotely and the battle mode is good. Overall though, I'm kind of glad when I can progress without it.

I'm just up to the part where you get to Miagani Island.

I think having a linear map design does more for a single player story driven game. Arkham Asylum felt so much more dark and depraved. I felt isolated, 100's of insane patients all locked up and ready to kill me, the eerie Scarecrow hallucinations in the corridors of the morgue were some of the best moments in the entire series. Having it as a sandbox takes away a lot of the tension in my eyes, you can just disappear into the night when things get too heated. Arkham you were trapped which made combat seem more high stakes and dangerous.

I like Arkham Knight, but it's lacking Asylums atmosphere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOUcITeL5Xs

Man, I really gotta replay Asylum one of these days. It was so awesome.

I rate Asylum and City on an even keel. They're different games that accomplished what they set out to do and made a fan out of me. Those nightmare sequences were the best out of everything Arkham I've played so far, on the other hand, was there a better boss fight than Dr. Freeze?

Since AK is basically building on AC, I can see it falling short, but I'd rather not give up on it being great based on playing just 4 hours.

I've completed it now and it's genuinely a good game. It's just lacking the real stand out moments that stay with you. Perhaps too much emphasis during development was put on the Batmobile. Still I enjoyed it and I'll most likely get the season pass. It should keep me busy until Fallout 4 comes out.

Played it for the first time to other night. My buddy bought it and this is the first time I have played these Arkham series games. I didn't like it and was not impressed by the game at all. The graphics are super sweet though.

I am not into games where you have to 'do this and do that' and after you do it, there is more shit to do.

God, I really want to get this, but I have so many games to play right now. The Witcher 3, MGS 2-4 + PW + GZ, Arkham City, Battlefront 2 lol, possibly Fallout 3/NV soon, and not to mention MGS 5 and Fallout 4 coming out in a few months.

Anybody still playing this? I'm moving slowly due to my busy schedule, but it looks like I'm 70% done with the main story. So far my opinion has not changed on either the gameplay or the batmobile.

Story is top notch so far yet again. Only complaint is that there are some major events that seemed anti-climactic the way they happened.

Do yourself a favor and don't read the Batman vs Superman thread in OTC. Arkham Knight's story is spoiled in there.

I've finally gotten into this game. All three of these games have taken some effort for me to get into, and then I've really enjoyed them once I was in. I'm showing 25% done, but I've done a ton of Riddler trophies and stuff like that, so I'm thinking I'm not that far into the story (I'm on the Stagg Airships). My one gripe right now is that as someone who likes to do the side mission stuff to level up before moving forward, there are times when it feels like I don't have as many options as I should considering how messy the map looks. A lot of stuff that I just can't get to yet. I spent a ton of my upgrades on armor early on, and while I can get through pretty much any combat sequence at this point, it does seem to have limited what I can do because of how little I have in terms of gadgets and gadget related upgrades, including the Batmobile upgrades.

There is way too much Batmobile use towards the end, and since I suck at that aspect of the game, I'm basically stuck. I haven't touched it in almost 2 weeks, will try to finish it this weekend. Looks like I'm more than 80% into the main story, under 60% overall.

I'm really not that happy about the batmobile use in the game. The weird angles as you're trying to get away just make it worse.

I'm at about 80% overall, and about that far in the story. I'm about to go into Port Adams, after my second trip to see Stagg on the blimps.

Does this allow you free roam after you're done? Because there's a lot of riddler trophies left for me to find. I'm not sure I'll do them. I'm getting pretty much done with it at this point. I've put away Penguin, Dent, Firefly, Pyg, and finished Azreal. I wouldn't mind finishing up the couple towers and bombs that seem to be left. But otherwise its mostly annoying riddler trophies.

And I'm still missing one weapon, which I'm guessing is the freeze gun.

I'll also add, my four and a half year old niece loves the hell outta this game. It's just scary enough without being too scary. And while she can't do much, she can whip around the rooftops with the hook. She can call the batmobile, although you need Dramamine to watch her drive, and she's virtually indestructible in it. She can mash the square to fight against most clusters of bad guys, and it winds up looking pretty cool. And at this point she can pull up the map, mark a point, find the bat symbol, and try to get to it. She also just yesterday started using the tools a little bit. The remote batarang and the explosive gel mostly.

And she loves some of the bad guys. The bat monster she loved. And Harvey Dent.

Yes it allows you to free roam until you can get 100% on everything I think, maybe even after that.

I finished the main story last week and am now trying to finish off some side missions before selling the game. I'm about 80% overall as well. I've beaten all the towers, destroyed all the drones flying around (not called out as a mission but it allows for the choppers to return), rescued firefighters, finished Penguin, 2 Face, Pyg, Azreal, Catwoman side stories. I'm now working on getting rid of all the checkpoints and destroying all the APCs.

I have yet to put any serious effort into disarming the bombs/mines or any of the Riddler trophies/challenges. I've tried doing the Firefly missions a couple of times but I always end up losing him. How the hell do I catch him? Do I have to exit the batmobile at just the right time? Is there a prompt that tells you when to exit?

BTW, you need to finish 8 side missions to get the ending after you beat Arkham Knight and Scarecrow. And in order to get the complete ending, you need to 100% the whole game, which is a terrible design choice in my opinion.

PS: You have a really cool niece.

It took me a bunch of tries to get The Firefly. You just have to stay with him and get close, toward the end of some unspecified time, and it will prompt you to do a glide launch out of the car. Don't do anything once you do the launch, it'll automatically cut to a tackle of him. There seems to be an indicator of how close you are to getting him by some change in the smoke coming out of his backpack. It kinda starts to sputter. He actually wasn't that bad once I figured out what I was doing.

I need one more firefighter. I'm pretty well into those bombs on the street. I think I have one more street checkpoint and one more tower, but neither are on my map. They list the "Threat Level" of each island on the map, that will tell you how many drones are flying around, so you can check if you got them all. I got the last of them last night.

I enjoy puzzles, and to a degree like the riddler trophies. But man some of them are just miserable horseshit time things that I just can't stand.

I also just beat the Arkham Knight tank last night. That was a miserable experience.

My niece is pretty cool. That's because she's got a cool Unc.

So beating Firefly is less about timing and more about keeping up with him until his jetpack runs out? I'll have to try that tonight.

I started focusing on the bombs and finished them and the checkpoints last night. Since I've beaten Arkham Knight I now have to deal with his "contractor" (I won't spoil who that is) and the boss fight of that was a rerun of the cloudburst tank. A lack of a real fight here was by far the most disappointing moment of this game for me. I mean holy shit, who was the idiot who made these decisions? Still, it's been kinda fun getting 92% of the game done so far.

I'm picking up riddler trophies here and there when I feel like it, but I can't see myself putting in any real effort into getting all of them. I did like 90% of them in Arkham City so maybe I'm just burned out on them.

Did you just beat the cloudburst tank or the one in the tunnels? The second is where I was stuck for an eternity and it made me hate the batmobile.

I beat the Cloudburst Tank out on the street where I had to hit it four or five times in different spots. And that was after taking out a half dozen of those tanks you have to hit from behind. It was pretty miserable.

Yeah it was pretty bad. Firing your cannon to goad them towards you is supposed to work but I can't say I had much luck. I was able to use that strategy with the excavator though while parked in the tunnel I wanted to use.

I was able to catch Firefly the first two times but I find it very difficult to keep up on the last one. Way too many turns and I've flipped the batmobile a dozen times trying to keep up with him.

Finally beat it. I took forever because it got to the point where my niece had to try every ****ing step of the way.

I'm at 99%. I didn't do most of the Wayne Tech VR challenges. I have 20 - 25 of the 250 Riddler trophies left. And I'm short on upgrading almost every part of the tree by an item or two. Probably because I'm missing points from the VR challenges.

It was good. I got substantially better at the Batmobile stuff as the game went on. My niece can play on New Game Plus now, and from the start she can do a lot more stuff.
