i have a really acid-sensitive stomach, so i take a combo of omeprazole and ranitidine pretty often. but that will also work for gastric reflux (heartburn).
if you don't have that stuff, go to the drug store and get some. take it with some magnesium antacid syrup and you should start feeling better right away.
if all you have is tums / rolaids handy, you can probably get some temporary relief by eating a couple small handfuls.

OP make sure you're eating at least 4000 calories a day or your heartburn will not disappear

Take ranitidine tablets. They work really well. Take one when you feel the heartburn coming on.

interesting, thx.
i've worked really hard to redesign my diet so that stuff like the acid episodes are greatly minimised. so when i avoid vinegar, wine and stuff like that, i can hit the red pepper and garlic as much as i want and still feel fine.
but there's another risk for ppl like me and the GERD folks-- strong antacids seem to leech B12 out of ones system, and with regular doses that can lead to permanent CNS damage.

It's good that you've set out to solve this problem at the top of the stream by eating more carefully. My brother also has heartburn and he was popping nexium like it was candy, i told him to chill tho, since his was also caused by a bad diet.
Do you supplement your b12 deficiency? I know when i worked at a pharmacy, vitamin b12 (cyanocobalamin) injections were a popular prescription.

Onions and various other heavy foods if eaten too frequently will give me straight up chest pains. Not even heartburn, but chest pains. Only alka seltzer helps me with that one.
Anyone here have that issue as well?

All these so-called remedies and no one mentions good ole fashion water.:confusedshrug:
For some unknown reason I got it bad for one year of my life. Don't know why it started bugging me and I don't know why it went away but I always carried bottles of water with me at that time. I found that water worked better than anything else I could buy over the counter. It worked instantly but needed to keep taking sips.

I have extremely irregular eating times. That and I eat really spicy food once a day. Have to cut down on the spicy food and need to change my eating habits. It's extremely painful and annoying AF when I get it right before going out or when I'm hanging out with friends. Have a mild one right now as I'm typing this.

yes, i do it by supplement and by veggies, but it seems like i'm losing the battle these days.
i mean, i've noticed my hands starting to shake recently. okay, i'm not 100% that's B12 deficiency damage or just drinking too much lately, but either way... damn.
EDIT: vitamin supplements are still hotly debated. many studies find that the best vitamin absorption is via injections, colloidals or just plain good food.

I use Tums which works for me, but due to being away from home, I just didn't have any on me.

Good to keep in mind for when it is released. I'll have some Tums by my side when I try it.

I only eat spicy foods occasionally, and not usually "really spicy."

I was 18 or 19 when i got diagnosed with the camera down the throat. if i miss my medication (rabeparazole sodium) for a day my throat and stomach starts getting eaten through. I'm not fat either back when it first started i would have been underweight.

I LOVE spicy food. The food I eat would probably make 99% of the people on here cry, but yeah, that's once a day and it's ruining my health (heart burn). It not that I eat unhealthy food. I eat healthy with a TON of added chillies.
EDIT: The irregular timings as well.

i have really really bad acid reflux.
My dad and I both have it as well.
I almost never get it real bad.
But there have been a few times I experienced such debilitating acid reflux and was in such severe pain that I thought something had ruptured in my stomach and I strongly considered going to the ER. It was agonizing
I'd rather break a leg, crack my skull or cut my self than experience that form of intense acid reflux ever again.
