View Full Version : that Spurs-Pelicans game on the last night of the season

We're gonna look back in 3-5 years at the Spurs/Pelicans finale as one of most playoff-impacting regular season games ever. That changed SO much.

Probably the most meaningful regular season finale in eons, if not ever.

It literally impacted the entire West playoff picture.

San Antonio had a shot at the 2 seed (and would have probably carved up Dallas the way Houston did, only not as fun as the Josh Smith alley-oop fest was).

The Clippers play Houston in the first round.

And hell Memphis beating Indiana also changed things up. Who knows how the Pacers would have played the Hawks and it would have potentially set up Spurs/Warriors in the second round.

Hard to summon the same type of intensity as a team that's playing for its life. I prefer to blame Pop for playing Parker so much when he had a HOT Mills sitting on the bench. The series was that close that an extra 5-10 minutes of Mills might have made a difference.

Yep.
Whoever wins can thank that game.

I remember the feeling when we lost..like I knew it was all over...and it had nothing to do with being worried about the clippers...coz I wasn't.

Just knew

I honestly don't feel it was the Pelicans game that cost the Spurs this season.. Pelicans were at home and playing what was the biggest game of the season for them.. They were always going to be hard to beat...

The game that cost the Spurs was the @ Knicks game.. Where the Spurs lost a big lead and lost in overtime.. That was the killer game that ended up busting up their season in the end

Popovich was on his ego trip this season which cost them another run at the title.

Playing Parker when he should've played Mills. Doing hack a jordan when he's up by 10.

What the **** is this

That game pissed me off because I was really looking forward to seeing Westbrook in the Playoffs. I think he could have beaten the entire Warriors team by himself much like Lebron is doing now.

That hack a Jordan was the worst. If the game is flowing for you why mess that up.

He wouldn't have, OKC would've lost, but Westbrook would've probably put up similar numbers as LeBron. Something like 32-10-8 on 40%ish shooting. But instead of getting his dick rode by everyone for winning a game or two, he would've been blasted for his low FG%.

That's not a good excuse for the Spurs. They had a chance to beat the clippers in the first round and didn't capitalize. They would have had a similar path to the finals either way, just with more HCA. That game was a must win but so was game 7 vs clippers.

No excuses

the Spurs have never had a chance to repeat. Always bounced in the first round the year after.

It pissed me off...how lightly Pops took that game....and when the clipps knocked 'em out...... that CP3 shot in the final second....was like a stab to the heart of Pops

Karma for beiing an arrogant old fool.

That depends- Kantur was not exactly going to do a Mozgov impersonation.

Warriors killed the Thunder. 3-1*

They rested Bogut and Iggy for that 4th game @ OKC, knowing Westbrick wouldn't even be able to lead his team to the playoffs, let alone win a game vs a full Warriors squad.:hammerhead:

Pelicans are a really good up-and-coming NBA team... similar to the 09-10 Thunder.. they'll be title contenders in 2-3 years if they can get a legit player to play alongside AD

Anyone know what was Parkers plus/minus compared to Mills in that Clipps series? Offense for them just flowed so much better when Mills was in.

They ruined it for everybody. Playoffs would've been way more exciting if they win that game and become the 2nd seed.

Spurs were IMO the 2nd best team in the league. They were playing at a championship level post AS break and were the only team that could've seriously gave the Warriors trouble.

They probably would've won it all when you really think about it. Their fans should be pissed right now.

Spurs were the only team I thought could prevent us from reaching the finals tbh

iirc, Parker had the worst RAPM of the entire postseason (the stat isn't great when using such a small sample size but it does back-up what I saw), and Mills' was around 5th among PGs.

Playoff Box +/-:

Parker -6.5 (Jesus Christ, what an awful year, and what an awful player)

Mills +6.8 (second on team behind Tim)

We looked better with Parker on the bench in the 2014 Playoffs too (defensive effort everywhere on the court, Manu handling the ball as he's our best playmaker, optimal spacing), but at least Parker wasn't shooting 4% or whatever it was this year.

Think Delladova is tough? :oldlol: Westbrook would have shitted on Curry so bad, they would have switched to anyone but Curry covering Westbrook. But Warriors still would have won, I'd say Warriors in 7 over Westbrook and friends.

:biggums: and people always try to say that he's on the top 5 pgs in the game   No doubt in my mind that the Spurs make the finals with Mills getting the majority of the minutes. Hell even Joseph playing over Parker would have been an major upgrade. I remember Cojo balling his butt off early in the year when Mills was still hurt.
