View Full Version : How legit would MJ's 4th ring be if Bulls won in 1995?

He came back to the NBA with 17 games left in the season. If the Bulls won the title that year, wouldn't that be considered a cheap ring for MJ?

It would be written as if he was the savior of the team that took off all that time from basketball to only comeback and will his team to a title........... but instead, his plan backfired on him after getting ousted in the 2nd round.

His shortcut to a title came up short.

No, the regular season is bullshit anyways. playoffs are what matter. the NBA isnt like the NFL. the regular season really does not matter.

The team wasn't doing great and their win % increased with him.

Depends on how he played in the finals really

Which played right into MJ's hand.

Either way, it would still boost his legacy :confusedshrug:

How did losing in the 2nd round boost his legacy? it did just the opposite while he tried to take the easy way.

young fan finds out that MJ only played 17 games of 1995 regular season.

comes on ish to make thread about his new discovery.

wasn't alive when it happens so has no clue what he's posting about

I meant that winning the ring in 95 would be a legacy boost whether he played 25 games or 82

Highly doubt it.

I'd bet it would be brought up a lot that "the GOAT"only played the last 17 reg. season games and then won a ring.

He got suspended for gambling...and came back as soon as the suspension was over.

What's the ring chase part in all of this?

This. MJ didn't team up with Larry and Magic and take a shortcut. MJ's was set on beating his opponents.... unlike LeCollusion.

He was out of shape in the regular season when he returned from his 1 1/2 years hiatus.

And that Bulls team won't beat the Magic or the Rockets in a best of 7 series. That's why the Bulls traded for Dennis Rodman in the off season.

MJ isn't built like a coward as OP's boy LeBron.

I thought ring chasing is saved for star players who can't do it in their situation or old players who jump on contenders where their role would be very modest?

Well, knowing what we know now in that he is 6/6, it would only enhance his legacy to make it 7/7.. But if he lost a few and went maybe 4/6 and got that ring to make it 5/7, then his critics would question it and I think to some extent, rightfully so. It's all about context. As it stands, 6/6 and never pushed to a game 7 in the finals.

17 games is plenty of time to readjust, considering that he's not coming back from injury.
He's every but accountable, just like every superstar in the NBA.
Just ask yourself, would Lobe or Lebron ne accountable under the same circumstances? Of course they would. This is what I mean by Jordan being held to a different standards

Sorry Bron fan, you lose. There is no scenario where Bron tops MJ. Accept it and move on.

It would be very legit, because it would required not in his peek MJ to play at above his GOAT level. Something that was just not going to happen, coming in with 17 games left in the season.
