What you fools know about this?
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ysnet/shenmue-3
Almost 1.5 million raised in less than 15 hours.
So glad this shit will finally be made.

Love this series. Didn't realize funding was the reason they never got around to making a 3rd instalment. Or are they just being shady bastards?

Doesn't Sega own the rights to Shenmue?
I will pledge $120 for this for sure!
This Kickstarter is bullshit. Asking for 2 million? Who are they trying to play, 2 million is not even 5% of what making a good Shenmue would cost.
I love Shenmue but shady stuff like this doesn't get my support.

No, it is legit. Sony announced the kickstarter at E3. I'm thinking the $2 million is the down-payment to get the project started & the team together. Some of the other funding will come from Sony.
They won't need $70 million like the original Shenmue though. Remember, that Shenmue was originally for Saturn then they had to port it for Dreamcast. They spent huge money on creating expensive music pieces. Lots of wasted money.
They also had to create an entirely new engine from scratch just for Shenmue - huge chunk of the $70 mill was spent on making the engine. This time, they are using Unreal Engine 4, which is much cheaper but great graphics. Other better technology nowadays too that allows them to do more with less.
I think $25 million is the max you need nowadays for a great game. Kickstarter is already at $2.65 million in 15 hours.. They have 29 more days to go  It is hitting $5 million easily. If Sony can match $15 million, that's all they need. Fans and other gamers that know nothing about the kickstarter will buy the game too once it's out. You don't have to pay full 100% of the money at once to a developer - you can have an agreement where you pay certain amount after release.

I know the project in itself is legit, but I have zero faith in the quality they will deliver considering the money they are asking for. The Witcher 3 had a budget of 67 million, and Poland is a very cheap place to develop a video game compared to Japan.
25 million for a big, epic game? It's cheap. And they are not asking for 25, they are asking for 2 million. They aren't even asking full price for the game. This won't be the big, epic Shenmue 3 I want. This will be a game low on everything, content, mechanics, size and quality.

I heard it might be made by the French developer that made Heavy Rain and 'Beyond: Two Souls' on the PS3 and Indigo Prophecy on the PS2.
BTW - I just read that the $70 mill includes both Shenmue 1 and 2. Same team worked on Shenmue 2, which came out a year after Shenmue 1.

Basically, if the Kickstart hits 10 million, Shenmue 3 will truly be an open world game.
Lets get it done.
