Trade J. Hill for G. Hill from the Pacers, get Okafor/Towns in the draft and we'll be contending next season.

:durantunimpressed:

Lakers would have to get someone like Kevin Love or Aldridge this offseason to make the playoffs in the West, and that's WITH Butler and the rookies. That's how tough the conference right now.

I don't see Chicago letting him go. They'll make any qualifying offer the Lakers would make, even potentially the max. He's one of the best two-way players in the league and the guy wasn't projected close to being this good offensively this soon. He's put in work to get his game better, you pay the man.

Even with that lineup the original posters made they still don't make they playoffs. One, we have no idea how Randle is going to pan out. Two, can Kobe even stay healthy a full season? Three, who know's how the pick will turn out?

oh the horror

Contending for what ? A playoff spot is about as good as that team would get them.

Why would the Pacers do that?

butler isnt worth a max contract. but the lakers will need to offer him one if they wanna steal him from chicago

he should get at most 14 mill

He is worth a max contract, because in a couple seasons a max contract now will seem like a bargain. You have to think ahead young fella. If players like Tristan Thompson are expected to get max contracts, expect Butler to be sniffing at that with his improvement offensively and his defensive mind-set this past season.

Butler is one of the best two-way players in the league. Chicago is not letting him go. Have fun with this one though.

The issue with Butler isn't that he's interested in X or will/could sign with X....the problem (for Chicago) is that he's reportedly interested in signing a short-term contract so that he can sign for as much as he can get under the new cap. A 3 year 50 mil extension with a player option so that he could hit UFA after year 2, where his new max would be 190/5.

Which would be an absolute disaster for Chicago...they went from playing hardball with his extension before this breakout season, refusing to go past 11 mil/yr when Butler's camp was asking for 12. They could've locked him up for 4-5 years at 12 per...now they're looking at potentially having to give him somewhere in the 30-38 mil range.

Not really that surprising.

You'll probably see more of these type stories since players now know that KoME is retiring.

He's not going to L.A. The only reason for exploring the sheets is to get the most money he can right now. Chicago will match any offer.

He's using the Lakers as leverage which is smart. When was the last time a big time restricted free agent actually signed with the Lakers? I think never. He'll end up signing a max contract with the bulls.
