I would welcome them in my country... Just that the society would probably be xenophobic about it.

Before the court ruling anyone born in the DR was automatically a citizen. Pregnant Haitian women would sneak across the border in order to have their children born in the DR. That tells you how bad it must be in Haiti.

The entire civilized world has done the same except for the United States and Canada. Our Constitution needs to be amended to prevent anchor babies from gaining citizenship. If you don't agree with aggressive immigration measures, don't you dare open your yap about low wages in the US. :coleman:

That seems like a sensible point to people like me and you. We understand that wage values are determined by supply and demand. People that want open borders AND high wages understand that too. The thing is, they don't want supply and demand to determine wages. They don't want a free market system at all. They want mass scale socialism and forced "equality".

This thread reminds me that I'm going to the DR in March, my 4th trip there.

Now that would be an interesting trip. :oldlol:
It's a pretty cool country. Pristine white sand beaches with coconut palms and banana trees and 5-star resorts everywhere. Samana in March and April is a breeding ground for humpback whales and it's pretty spectacular to see them breaching just off shore.
The downside, like just about everywhere in the Caribbean, is that the majority of the population lives in poverty. Their poverty isn't as bad as Haiti though.

I've been to Ocho Rios and Negril and they do have similarities to the DR. Both are mountainous islands. The food and music are better in Jamaica, the beaches better in the DR imo. There's crime on both islands and while I'm a little cautious venturing beyond the resorts in the DR there are places in Jamaica that resemble a war zone.

the hard rock. The only thing I would change would be staying on the caribbean side rather than the atlantic. The beach was cool and all, but it doesn't compare to the caribbean.
Nice. I'm gonna be in Samana which is north of Punta Cana.
