you can't deny that coaches DO MATTER

difference was just night and day.

so i'm tired of hearing about how coaches don't play on the court and are therefore irrelevant. that only players win games.

So that's another obstacle Lebron has to over come in every finals series as everyone knows a team playing Lebron ball has no real coach or play book!

the idiots here on ISH.

usual lines.

"it's not the coach's fault. he's not the one making player x miss."

"lol. because coach x is making those shots and rebounds right?"

"what do you want coach to do, shoot the ball for player x?"

and all these other things idiots say that don't comprehend how coaches affect the game.

Some debate it...

A former NBA coach says

And if anything, these finals showcased to rookie NBA coaches. They matter to a degree, but the talent wins the game. Only great coaching could possibly match good/great talent.

I think this was one of those years where coaching mattered quite a bit

Tough to argue that Hawks would have won 60 games without Budenholzer

And Steve Kerr (& Gentry/Adams) made some major changes to GS by benching Iguodala/Lee all season, running more plays for Bogut and Draymond to be the decision maker/passer, resting players throughout the season and managing minutes, and great out-of-bounds plays all season that got them easy buckets... doing so without messing up the chemistry of the team

this is what i hate.

"talent wins games."

of course they ****ing matter

popovich is the only coach on the planet who wins the title with that 2014 spurs roster

thats why i dont hold it against durant for not winning yet. hes only had one legit chance and it was with the worst coach in history

you all will be pleasantly surprised at how good okc looks under a competent coach in donovan

Talent > Coaching at the end of the day unless it's top tier GOAT level coaching, which will still get trumped by a GOAT level talented team.

Depends on the style of basketball. An isolation-heavy offense aka Lebron's ball negates the importance of an offensive coach.

Couple clips from Open Court I remember about this subject. Gives an idea on how some NBA players feel.

https://youtu.be/ZcZLqqifvnE?t=55 (more for what CWebb said, but you need Barry's dialogue for context)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CCkatCABYc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPCn_raDJf0 (this aired after the above segment coming after the commercial break. The opening part in black and white was continuing on the conversation. The rest of the video is another subject)

cliffs:
basically in the first, Barry goes on how Pop knew how to motivate each player and making the roleplayers feel as important as the stars. Then Webber quickly implies that's an unusual coaching quality and felt that is what all great teams have.

Second was about what leadership and fundamental coaching could have done for a player like McGrady. In the second video, Kenny and Zeke make the connection that MJ and Zeke played under alltime great coaches at every level. Kind of chicken or the egg thing.

2004 pistons should thank kobe and shaq for almost being enemies at that point. People keep saying that pistons defense was the biggest reason but i saw shaq having a great position in the post and kobe would just not pass even when it was an easy pass with no chance of a steal.

Kobe and Shaq didn't used to play like that till 2002 at least. Kobe used to pass to shaq if shaq had great positioning in the post.

True, but even if Kobe would had passed to Shaq more instead of chucking low FG%, still IMO Pistons would had won.

In any case, point was if GOAT level coaching can beat GOAT level talent, and the answer is yes, its possible.
