Gilbert Arenas shares a story where the Nuggets are blowing out the Lakers and Kobe sees Melo laughing on the sideline. At the time Melo was leading the league in scoring by a healthy margin with 30+ PPG (to Kobe's ~28 PPG). Kobe takes exception to Melo's light-heartedness and lets him know that even though the Nuggets were going to win the game, Melo wasn't going to win the scoring title.

Sure enough, on 03/15/2007, the Nuggets blew out the Lakers in Denver by 27 points.

Kobe then followed up that Denver game with a 5 game stretch where he scored 65, 50, 60, 50, and 43 points. With 12 games left in the season, Kobe went on to have a 53, 46, 50, and 50 point game. In that 17 game stretch to end the season, Kobe averaged 40.3 PPG on 47.44% shooting to overtake Carmelo Anthony and win the 2007 scoring title.

So Kobe will shoot (or stop shooting) to prove a point above all else (even winning). Kobe in a nutshell.

And we've certainly never seen a player do that before or since!

It's certainly not celebrated. Just tired of the Lebron/Kobe dikk sucking. If Kobe goes greenlight he can certainly put up monster numbers. That's not exactly news.

So not only did Denver win that particular game, but they also had a better record than the Lakers from that point until the end of the season, AND finished higher than them in the standings.

Looks like Kobe really showed him!

Lakers played Denver two more times after that and lost two more times with Melo outperforming Kobe.

Yeah...no. This argument doesn't work with a guy who then won two more championships. Then again, I guess if you're a Melo fan, these regular season moral victories are all you have to latch onto.

However, Melo did win the tanking battle last season with his team having a worse record than Kobe's. I mean, Kobe's team did end up with a higher draft pick (the shitty team's version of a championship) but still, those regular season moral victories are what matter, right?

Brah, not sure what you're trying to argue. Melo > Kobe and it's not even close
