Weve known this for a decade now. Bran has some of the worst footwork ive EVER seen from an athlete. On offense and defense his fundamentals and technique are garbage, always has been, always will be

Hes a good player but hes not skilled, technical or fundamental. Just pure natural talent, athleticism, power

This is why I hate the "best player in the world" nonsense. Bran is all athletism and little skill.

How exactly do you make the passes he does without any skill? Or improve his 3 point shooting throughout his career?

No need for hyperbole. He's not only extremely athletic, but extremely skilled as well.

There's been plenty of unbelievably athletic players to play in the NBA; some were great, some were terrible. Being athletic doesn't automatically make you an all-time great.

Who narrows the scope down to "just skill" when talking about the best player? It's always about their impact on the court, regardless of where it comes from or how it's done. No one is going to take Al Jefferson or Pau Gasol over Shaq because they have pretty footwork and a whole book of post moves.

I'm steadily losing respect for Phil Jackson.

He needs to worry about his lottery team and stop crying about a dude who just made 5 straight finals. He's been a really bad GM so far in his career.

Didn't improve his shooting that much, to shoot 27% from 3 in the playoffs this year.

He obviously did...

It's pretty obvious looking at his shooting from around 2006, then his shooting during his time in Miami.

Just because he's improved, doesn't mean he is a skilled shooter. The fact is you can still give him space, dare him to shoot, and not be punished. That's not a skill; it's a weakness.

His passing and court vision are good. I'd say that's a talent, but it's okay if you wanna call it a skill. Either way he's very good at it. But that's about it. There's nothing else he does at an elite level that would be considered a skill.

LOL at LeBron being "extremely skilled." He has no moves and relies almost solely on his athleticism.

Mediocre mid-range game, no crossovers, no fadeaways, no catch and shoot off a screen, no jab steps, no fakes, his jumper is inconsistent, no post up moves, awkward footwork etc. LeBron's game is basically iso, take a couple of dribbles, launch a 27-footer, or just bowl over guys with brute force and get points. Traveling and running over defenders are basically his signature moves. :oldlol:

Everybody travels when they catch the ball. It's a little bit of an annoyance for me. Watch any NBA game and on at least 5 occasions a player will come to catch the ball and, before dribbling, reshuffle both his feet, or someone in the post will turn to face and slide both feet, etc.

Travelling just isn't enforced that much anymore in the NBA. At least not those kinds.

Simple Jack
06-22-2015, 04:00 PM
The people claiming LeBron has no skill and is simply all athleticism are shamefully showing how little they know about the sport (or how much they enjoy trolling).

Phil is right, of course.

He uses LeBron as an example of some things wrong with the game. Others do it as well. And the officiating enables them. It's just that LeBron does it a huge amount of the time, and gets enabled by the refs far far more than anyone else.

LeBron is just the preeminent example of what Phil is talking about.

Lebron isn't that skilled tbh, he is very athletic for someone of his size, he is durable, he is extremely quick on his feet albeit his bad first step. But he isn't that skilled, he just never had to develop that part of his game because of his natural talent. He should of tho, he might have better a better ratio. 2:6 lmao

Actually the GOAT coach doesn't need to do anything but keep doing what he's doing that that is critiquing players like LeBron James who despite going to the finals 5 times in a row has nothing more that a 2/6 record to show for it and will never win a chip without Wade.

Literally one of the only reasons I could never be a huge James fan is because of the lack of finesse and skill in his offense. LeBron is an amazing passer, playmaker, rebounder and help-defender. He is a tremendous athlete and his physical gifts come in a package pretty much unparalelled by anyone not named MJ or Shaq. He's an efficient player and technically the "best" player in the league for probably the past 5-7 years or so. But for someone considered an all-time great, he has one of the most aesthetically unpleasant offensive-skillsets that i've ever seen. He has zero grace and all brute force and clunkiness. If he wasn't the freak of nature that he is, he'd at best be a Top 18 player in the league and i'd say Top 50-60 all time given consistency.
