View Full Version : Wesley Matthews wants 15mil per

Hey Yo

"According to a person with knowledge of Matthews’ situation, he is seeking a multi-year deal that pays approximately $15 million annually. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of such discussions.

Matthews has already returned to basketball activities (after tearing his ACL) and he is expected to be fully healthy and ready to play at the start of the regular season. He is on track to be active once training camps begin in October, but is likely to ease his way into the preseason. Matthews, a strong defender who averaged a career-high 16.4 points per game two seasons ago and 15.9 points per game in the 2014-15, has been playing at an All-Star caliber level for quite some time now and is confident that he’ll return to that level next season."

Take it or leave it, Wes.

Sure you have to start high, but sometimes a high "list price" gets you listed as a joke that nobody is interested in. Without the Achilles injury I wouldn't want a team in cheering for giving him over 10 per

Part of the dark side greed is.

Crazy how a guy like Wes probably gets 15 mil total 15 years ago. Now he is making it per year.

It doesn't make sense to pay these guys this much.

oh the horror

And he's coming off injury too. It's insane.

Teams are so afraid to lose these guys that they're getting overpaid left and right

He didn't tear his ACL, he tore his Achillies, which is much more serious. History suggests that if your tear this, you are never the same. I would stay away for that much. He wasn't that explosive to begin with so he'll be even slower now. But pre-injury, that guy was darn good with his 3 shooting and D.

The NBA makes more revenue then it did 15 years ago, is it fair that the owners make all the profits?

You for real? Do you know the rate of inflation compared to the rate at which these contracts are going up? :oldlol:

And the percentage that the players are seeing of that revenue increase is insane.

Cmon Wes.

You're a solid role player coming off a serious achilles injury and you are wanting close to the max?

We can dream I guess.

I'm not giving him 15 million coming off of an Achilles injury.

Doesn't matter what he wants because he's not getting 15m.

I love how the new TV deal is just the fallback for every guy who wants way more than he's actually worth now. Crazy dudes.

Who cares what he wants? He's a nice player, but definitely not worth $15 mil or even $12 mil a year. Just let him walk if he refuses to take less than $12 mil a yr...

He can easily be replaced.

Good for him.

I love how fans think these players are greedy where if you were in their shoes, you'd jump at the OPP to get paid that much.

Owners still make a ridiculous amount. Now Wesley is crazy because he doesn't contribute other than on the basketball court.

But players that are the face of their franchise should be getting paid more.

At that price, no thanks.

considering the new luxury tax double penalty.

unless you can play him 40 min a game. you can even stay at a relevant PER with more assists/rebounds instead of just from a points perspective.

you get a coach okay with that.
certainly, the money is out there right?

I love Matthews, but that is too much. That is steep, but doable, if he were healthy, but he's not.

So slow on the uptake in regard to the explosion in player salaries.

In two years the max salary is going to be ~44M. So this is 1/3 of that. And he has been an ideal SG for a number of years. Really good defender, really good shooter, good passer. The kind of guy you want on your team.

Bless Mathews

Wessy is worth every penny.

I talked to Paul the other day.

We finna get a deal done.

Not really worth it to be honest but they'll pay it. I'd say 12-13 max. Get him on a 5 year 65 million dollar deal.

3 and D players are more valuable than ever nowadays... I feel like Trevor Ariza contributed to the mold of guys getting max deals as good 3 point shooters that play D.

Especially with the cap going up next year this deal is gonna look more like an MLE deal. Not too much for an elite 3 and D player
