http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/_/id/13138364/dallas-mavericks-explore-monta-ellis-trade-exercises-player-option

Article says if he exercises his option they'll likely trade him for a pick so they can use his capspace in free agency.

Surprising since don't have a lot of shot creating outside a twilight-staged Dirk. The players theyre targetting in free agency don't exactly fill that role either - Aldridge, DeAndre, Danny Green.

Plus Ellis is only making 8 million next year. Seems like a bargain considering how well he's played for the Mavs.

Bulls should definitely take a long look at Monta.

ellis and rose combo attacking could be a lethal one.

sign me up. 8 mill per is value to me.

not a bad signing, him and melo would be a good combo... melo would have an established shooting guard for once but ellis is more of a southern guy, hard to see him leave the south

Mavs put this out there hoping Ellis will decline his Player Option in fear of being traded somewhere he doesn't want to go. Mavs want to use that money to sign a MAX player.

If there are any teams hurting for scoring and can use an extra guard or sixth man they should make a shot at Monta.

**** this. Mavs would be stupid to let him go.

Ellis at 9mill is great value. He was having a great year before Rondo came in. Over 21ppg/5 asts on solid efficiency on a winning ball team.

If he really is gone, then I hope he finds a team where he can shine once again. I'd like to see him in cleveland as a 6th man. That'd be so deadly.

Knicks would be nice. He might be great with Melo, and will still have his own touches.

ive read an article (think it was on scout) that the front office wasnt satsfied with the developement and the attitude on and off the court of ellis.
if ellis doesnt have the ball he is incredible unproductive and lets be hones...he is pretty bad on defense either. i would be happy having him on the mavs for 9 mio a year....but not for the 13-15mio range. same with chandler. he isnt worth 15mio. his defense this playoffs was so bad, worse than dirk

Damn. I wonder what happened between Ellis and the FO if this is true. It seemed like they both loved each other. Especially Ellis, he was saying how he wanted to retire in Dallas just this past February.

Def not 15 mill. But I was thinking something along the lines of 3 years and about 11-12 mill per year. I thought that was fair.

yea, the articel didnt specify exactly why the FO isnt satisfied.
and yes 11mio a year is good. especially if you think that there isnt any productive player as monta on the offense for this money on the market. if mavs wont offer him 11-12 mio than there are some teams who will offer him this amount of money.

Especially if it's so they can give DeAndre Jordan or LeMark Aldridge a max contract :facepalm

Doubt the Nets back court could afford more.

He could also be Jodie Meeks exploration part 2.

Every GM might ask themselves, what is the use of a Guard who can shoot long 2's better than 3's. But then I suppose it may come down to how much anyone values pump fakes.

Are you kidding me? :biggums:
Do you want them to have more talent while the rest of the East teams have little?

The writer and Ellis hate each other. Ellis refuses to speak with him. Writer claims Ellis is a bad locker room influence and bitched about Parsons contract. Which makes one wonder why he has written about five articles about Ellis opt-ins, when Ellis is (at worst) properly paid and has zero incentive to opt-in.

If the Mavs leaked that info to him (cause Macmahon has no insider information) they gain absolutely nothing. The only reason Ellis would opt in, is that he likes Dallas so much, he

Probably need to give up one of their bigs anyway. Wouldn't mind giving up Gasol, but it would probably end up being Taj.
