The Knicks are going to try to win now to keep Melo happy. Win as in make the playoffs.

This deal doesn't seem to fit Philly's agenda though.

Hmm.. Not sure I would trade up for okafor.. He's a difficult fit in today's game. Gonna need a rim-protecting stretch four that is good defensively as a partner.

Smart + 16th for 3rd I would entertain tho

Why wouldn't the Knicks trade directly with the Suns or with Boston? We act as a conduit to Boston in order to get a lower pick? Explain why they'd do that.

That Philly rumor is Ainge just trying to move up. He offered Smart + Father Kelly + #16 + unnamed player for Noel & #3. If he wants to be in the range for Okafor, he's going to need to cough up 3 first rounders + a promising young guy.
