The GIF above says MJ scored 46% of Bulls' points in the 4th quarter during 1988 regular season - it was taken from a Bulls-Rockets telecast:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiBQ05cXt04&t=0m21s

Bulls averaged 105.0 PPG in 1988 season, so let's assume 1/4 of that was scored in 4th quarter, or 26.2 points..

46% of 26.2 fourth quarter points is 12.1 points - that's a good estimate of MJ's fourth quarter scoring average in 1988.. By comparison, he averaged 9.6 points in 4th quarter of 1997 playoffs, and 9.0 points in 1998 playoffs - these stats are from nba.com's official stats (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/893/stats/?Season=1996-97&SeasonType=Playoffs).

Also, Elias Sports Bureau lists the highest 4th quarter scoring averages in the Finals (it's googleable), and Jordan's 1993, 1997, and 1998 Finals rank as 3rd, 4th, and 5th all-time, at 10.7, 10.4, and 10.3 points, respectively.

By comparison, Lebron averaged 8.1 points in 4th quarter during the 2015 playoffs, which we all know was his highest scoring playoffs ever, with by far the most shot attempts he's ever taken in the playoffs.

From 2011 to 2014, Lebron averaged 6.3, 7.3, 7.4, and 5.8 points in the 4th quarter of playoffs, respectively.. Again, this is from nba.com's official stats (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/2544/stats/?Season=2013-14&SeasonType=Playoffs&Period=4).. :D

Why do you make a habit of just blatantly making stuff up? This was only Lebron's 4th highest scoring playoffs.

Was that the season before or after he went 1-9?

Jordan was a cancer that padded stats in blowout 4th quarters, even when he was losing. Not impressed.

1-9 with no all-stars.

Otoh, Zydrunas Illgauskas was named an all-star in 2003 and 2005.. So Lebron missed the playoffs in 2005 despite having an All-Star on his team.. And when he won his first playoff game in 2006, he did so with the help of a 2-time All-Star.

Otoh, MJ never played with an all-star during his early playoff career... But once he got just 1 all-star, he went 6/6.. Whereas, Lebron missed the playoffs despite having an all-star, and only went 2/4 with two all-stars in Miami.

(This wasn't Lebron's highest scoring playoffs)

I assumed this was Lebron's highest scoring playoffs because I know he took by far the most shots he's ever taken (27 per game).

But I forgot that Atlanta and Golden State let Lebron isolate without double-teaming, which tanked his FG%, because he's a horrific 1-on-1 player and isolator when he has no screen.

He shot 33% on isolations in the 2015 Playoffs, which cratered his overall FG% because isolations are what Lebron does more than anything else - he isolated on 32.7% of his possessions in these playoffs, easily leading the league.

So Lebron's poor isolation FG% was the biggest factor driving his poor overall FG%.. For this reason, we know MJ would've shot much better in Lebron's shoes, since he's the GOAT isolator, which is a far cry from Lebron's below-league-average iso ability.

Off the top of my head, that was the season the Bulls won 50 games, with a rookie Pippen and Grant averaging 7 points each off the bench, when MJ averaged 35/5/5 and won defensive player of the year and MVP, leading the Bulls over Cleveland in the playoffs before losing to the eventual ECF champs Detroit. Something like that....

Who's number 1?
Most Points Per 4th Quarter
NBA Finals Past 20 Seasons

1995 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5
2000 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5
1997 Michael Jordan 10.7
2011 Dirk Nowitzki 10.3
1993 Michael Jordan 10.3

>> From Elias Sports Bureau

MJ averaged 10.6 points in 1998 Finals (which would be 4th on the list)..

But Elias didn't include it because they divided his 4th quarter points by 6 games, when it should've been 5 games, since MJ sat out the 4th of Game 3 due to blowout.

So you're saying he declined in the postseason?

Hmmm... I guess that takes care of it..

That thread has the best detailed information on MJ's clutch stats I've ever seen.

This thread is more of a comparison with Lebron's stats.. The stats show that for every point MJ got in the 4th quarter, Lebron gets half a point.

Lebron averages about 6-7 points in the 4th quarter, while MJ averaged 9-10 points during his 2nd three-peat, and over 12 points in his prime.

An oldie but a goodie

Lebron's 4th quarter stats are pure aids compared to Jordan's

He's like the anti-Lebron. No wonder MJ never led a superteam to the lottery. :lol

Talk that **** now. Jordan never lost with HCA or won bronze medal for America.

Surprising since MJ was known to get his early and often, but it's partly accountable to a porous team, he trained especially for the fourth quarter at night
