Okafor is just another Brook Lopez.
D'angel can be Curry/Harden type of franchise player.

I like russell but he isn't in curry or hardens level athletically

Think had Minny gone with Okafor Lakers would've been hard pressed not to pick Towns instead of DR1, as it stands I'm not worried about him being a bust. Future backcourt is set, now awaiting big-name signing.

Lakers haters are  We just got the best player in the draft and our next star guard to take Kobe's place when he retires.

Why you say that like they're above average athletes? Curry was getting the same non athletic comparisons before he was drafted. Harden's entire style of play relies on less athleticism than most 2's, yea he can still get up there and make a play above the rim when needed , but so can Russell.

Russell doesnt has the first step and movement they have imo especially hardens . Don't get me wrong though if i had the second pick id take russell for the lakers roster too. I like him more than okafor l.

Harden is nothing special in terms of athleticism.

I don't know what you're talking about bro, how does Harden have a quick first step? :wtf:

Curry's definitely quick , but Ive seen Russell make similar ball handling moves as Steph just from watching his game footage.

Hes noticably slower, it's not a big deal but it's been thee biggest knock on him since his high school days and right through college

Biggest thing I'm worried about is his defense. You have guys like Andre Miller who have had long NBA careers considered non athletes. Or even Jason Kidd, he was never an above the rim type of player or necessarily the fastest.

lakers fans should go see deangelo's draft weakness vid and come back... he can shoot but thats about it, passing is a given but will only see it when kobes on the bench...poor penetrator and finisher at the rim, usually has the settle for a well defended floater, poor defender, not much lateral quickness

Ive been watching it since we drafted him. I know his weaknesses , I just don't think a of lack athleticism is necessarily a strike against. Plenty of highly skilled players in the league with average athleticism.

Exactly but before you denied it was a weakness. He's a good prospect but some lakers fans are just posting things ignoring his actual game. Did the same thing with randle too.

Guess the Top two MVP candidates this year are "weak" in that regard too then. Harden and Curry ain't no studs athletically bro.

O cmon, steph is a legend in his college years at davidson, he carried a division 5 type of college team in to the ncaa tournament, his known to be a unstopable 3 pt scoring machine in his college years, same as harden, who showed a lot of scoring skills in arizona st, and do you compare this guy to them? He will be an austin rivers type of player at best

Still, he has one move (the step back), other than that hes just good at drawing fouls, cant stand that taliban.

Love to see many people in this board are great talent evaluators but humbly chose other jobs rather than be a basketball team executive, coach, or scout.

Some players haven't played a single NBA minutes and have already been labeled as a bust ...

If the Tournament is all it's about Kaminsky and Okafor shoulda went 1 and 2.

btw Davidson definitely isn't a d5 type college team. It's a top tier "mid major" program with a good history and McKillop is one of the best and most respected coaches in the sport. College, pro, whatever. Pretty sure he works with Team USA. They have as many NCAA Tournament appearances as Arizona State (Harden), and more than the likes of SDSU, Santa Clara, Clemson, Minnesota, Louisiana Tech, and Miami where HOFers and some others really good NBA players have come from.

I happened to have watched and remember (some of) Harden at ASU and I'd say their seasons were about equal. Remember, tho, that Harden was a sophomore when he left and there's the old saying that the biggest leap a player makes is from his freshman to sophomore season. And as far as the NCAAT goes, Harden's two games his soph year:
1-8 from the field, 7 rebounds, 3 assists in a 9 point win against lower seeded Temple
2-10 from the field, 6 rebounds, 5 assists in a 11 point loss against higher seeded Syracuse

He played with another NBA player as well. Someone still in the NBA... Unless McLovin makes the association, it would seem Russell didn't play with any. Or they didn't do shit when Russell was still in school.

Clearly troll thread. Let's be honest: Had the Lakers chosen Okafor, someone would create the same thread but replacing Dlo's name with Ok4.

I actually preferred Ok4 but Russell won't be a bust.

ImKobe

lol at this thread, someone bookmark and bump it once the season arrives and he's showing his true potential

he's only 19...he's not at the peak of his athleticism. Look at Kobe or a young Jason Kidd for example, they didn't look that fast nor strong either but they improved.

People look at rookies and try to evaluate them as they are already a finished product or some ish...you don't have a clue. Some players are clear-cut future superstars/HOFs like Bran, Wade, Shaq, Jordan were but that's not always the case. Kobe even barely got drafted in the lottery because they said he was too skinny and not athletic enough though he showed he had all the tools.

He was the best player available/safest pick. Okafor is a big with no shooting ability and no defense. We can sign a FA and get a player with much bigger impact on both ends. Russell was a great pick.
