View Full Version : Wolves sign Nemanja Bjelica (Euroleague MVP)

They drafted him in the 2nd round of 2010 draft. Reports say it's 3 year 12 million deal.
He's a 6'10 SF/PF, but he mostly played PF past few seasons. Very mobile, can create from outside, great rebounder and good shooter, not much of a leaper but compensates it with long arms.
I'm really looking forward to see him finally play in the NBA and I expect him to do good.

That was a good description until you said he was a SF/PF. He's no SF. It's this same bullshit like last year with Mirotic. And this guy is even less of a SF than Mirotic is, because Mirotic is much more athletic.
Bjelica is a PF and that's it.

great ... front court for the wolves just got doped...
they can seriously trade pekovic next year if this guy would do great.
if he would play in the summer league wolves would be the favorite to win it all in a dominant way.

:wtf:
Why in the hell would a member of a big European national team play in something ridiculous like NBA summer league?
He's a scrub then... right, Euroleague?

Wait a minute...I thought Vasilious Spanousliuos was the best player in Europe and the Euroleague MVP now and forever?
Has Euroleague been lying all this time? :lebronamazed:

Yeah, that's not happening...
Ann about his position. Bjelica actually played PG when he first came to Crvena Zvezda in 2008. I'd say he's deceptively athletic, but yeah, nowadays he plays PF but with ball in his hands a lot and mostly.on perimiter.

He's a ball handling, face up, power forward with 3 point range and a decent outside shot (not a very good shooter really, but he can hit from long range), and that has some high post skills and could post some smaller guys also. Nothing at all confusing about his position, skills, or what his role should be. Mirotic is a power forward, and the Bulls stupidly tried to use him as a small forward and it was a complete disaster. And they quickly abandoned that experiment.
Bjelica is less capable even to try playing SF than Mirotic. So in no way in hell is he going to be playing SF.

Euroleague, legit questions:
1. how do you explain the success of parker in euroleague, and his failure in the nba?
2. can you go on record with whether or not you think Nemanja Bjelica will be one of the best players (MVP contender), a great player in the NBA (first or second team all NBA level), a very good player (all star level), a good role player, a role player, or a scrub?
I ask because very single time a european sucks in the nba you make excuses and claim that they are over the hill or some other reason.
I think this about sums up what I want to say to you right about now....

Bjelica was always considered talented, but he has really brought his game to the next level in the last few years. He used to be a 3, now he mostly plays 4 and uses his speed against other bigs. I expect he could actually become 3rd star on the Wulves team.

Wolves should start their young guys honestly. Their pick is only top 12 protected anyway. May as well let the guys develop since they're the future.
Bjelica was apparently seeking over $15M- I guess close to Mirotic money. Will have to wait to see how much he actually agrees to.

FIBA only lists him as a small forward, his own website and his wikipedia list him as a PF/SF.
Do you really need to attack an ISH poster for just posting the info available on the web about the guy?

I don't know much about this guy. All i did was google his name and nearly every result lists him as a small forward or pf/sf.
They may be wrong but it's just annoying when euroleague attacks a poster here for posting what every other site on the web says about a player and acts like the poster is lying or stupid.

My point is you can't call someone an idiot when numerous places list him as sf. You could have said nicely that he's a pf but no you choose to be an ass

Well, it seems that the contract wasn't signed as news here reported it.
He officially opted out of his Fenerbahce contract few hours ago
Knicks are also interested in him, but Wolves hold his draft rights.

The guy is 6-11 in shoes... Plays some point forward too.
Otherwise a good description.
I'm not sure how his talents translate in the NBA. He's not a stat monster (I believe he has something like 12/7/4 in the Euroleague), he got his MVP title for his versatility.
Don't expect this guy to dominate.

He got the MVP because of online fan voting, and PIR stat (which for some bizarre reason people in Europe are obsessed with), which is based mostly on rebounding numbers.
I don't think you can claim he plays point forward. Because I don't think he's capable of doing that. Not even remotely in the least possible slightest way.
He's a good ball handler and he's a good passer, and he can do some play making. He's not capable of playing point forward. What he can do is push the ball up the floor and make some plays in the open court.
But saying "he can play point forward" means he can play point guard at the power forward position. He CANNOT do that.

As a Bulls fan I am still a bit on the fence about Mirotic. I do like him, but I don't know what I should realistically expect out of him in the future. I am sure you have watched him play longer than I have. How much do you think he is capable of achieving in his NBA career?

Well, if you have read any of my posts about him then you would know that I have said all along about him, since long before he came to NBA....
that he is a very good player, very skilled, very talented,
BUT
He is THE SOFTEST big man I have EVER SEEN. Both mentally and physically.
That's the whole problem with Mirotic.
So yeah, there is no doubting his skill or ability, but you can't erase SOFT.
So, I would say I am like you. I would not know how to predict him going forward. Because at some point, he MIGHT grow a pair.
