View Full Version : What is it going to take to balance East VS West?

I am starting to wonder what it is going to take for the re-balancing of the 2 conferences.
Only thing that comes to my mind is that when Duncan Retires, Cousins & LMA moving over to the east, Durant going home to Washington, and Eastern teams starts drafting all-stars.
Only 1 thing I mentioned is probably gonna happen which is Duncan retiring then followed by drafting all-stars.
This seems like a long road to re-balance and I don't see how Eastern Conference teams will figure out how to lure some of those superstars over from the West.
Most Free Agents will not place the following team as a desired #1 landing spot:
Philadelphia (unless their picks starts to ball)
Toronto
Detroit
Indiana
Milwaukee
Atlanta
Charlotte
Washington
Where are the West only have a few such as:
Utah
Minnesota
Maybe OKC if they didn't have Westbrook and Durant
And maybe SA post pop/duncan/parker/ginobilli era.

Who really knows? The easy and viable answer is to contract the Eastern Conference and just base playoff seeding on W/L record.

Lebron retiring/going to the WC. Aslong as he plays other teams than his aren't that attractive in the east.

It's pretty balanced imo. You could argue Cleveland had a harder road to the finals than the Warriors, so much for the 'stacked' west

I don't know.
You have teams like the Pelicans, Kings, and Wolves building strongly for the future.
Not much up and coming in the East.
And outside the Cavs, and maybe the Bulls/Hawks if free agency goes right...there are just a bunch of teams that would struggled to make the playoffs in the West and aren't legit contenders at all.

I don't know if you are trolling or stupid.
The East having 1 or 2 great teams each year doesn't solve the problem. The Cavs could have been the 86 Celtics last season and the East still would have been one of the worst conferences ever.

If they do TOP 16 then all teams must play everyone equally to make it fair. Then there is added travelling and cost.

This. You play each team twice, one home and one away and best 16 goes to playoffs.

This would make too much sense, not enough dollars. Pun intended.

Durant comes to the East in 2016, the Bucks move to Seattle bc their stadium deal falls through and New Orleans is swapped for them into the East.
Boom 2016 the top 3 players in the league are all in the East.

Good try
The west has had a winning record against the east 15 of the last 16 years.

What about divisions?
Divisions already have become useless now that division seedings are irrelevant towards playoff seedings (only records matter now), maybe you haven't heard of this news yet.
Like I said, no conferences, 30 teams = 58 games, each team twice, home and away... its simple, but I bet they will somehow **** it up by not changing anything, or changing it but messing some other shit up, or not fully filling the hole.

People have said Top 16 for a while, but how about...
Moving 4 or 5 teams from the West to the East ? Swap the Texas teams and Memphis to the East; move Chicago, Milwaukee, and some other filler teams West.
Would that help ?

Travelling would be way out of Wack.
Moving teams only makes sense if the teams are close within the divisions.

I don't think the Owners would ever go for 58 games, but it is a great idea.

Surely the "stacked Heat" with Bosh and Wade are contenders, no?

If you look at the last 3 drafts arguably the 3 best players from every year are all in the west.

that proves absolutely nothing. The lakers won a bunch of championships in the 80s but the west still was a much weaker conference.
The easiness of the current east helped lebron, as his opponent usually had to go through a gauntlet.

Maybe...if they are healthy and they bring back Dragic and Wade...sure, but I don't think they would be good enough to actually win.
Same thing with Hawks and Bulls...that is why I said depending on what happens in free agency. They'd have to add legit pieces. The Heat are pretty much locked in to what they can do. Dragic and Wade...and maybe fill out the rest of the team a little.
I just can't see that Heat team beating a healthy Cavs team....or any Healthy top 4 West team.
Like the Bulls and Hawks...they'd struggle to make the playoffs in the West and lose in round 1.
Hawks might be a top 6 seed given their regular season success, but they aren't beating top 4 west teams in a playoff series unless something changes.
West is only getting better.
Thunder, Warriors, Spurs, Clippers, and Rockets....those teams are all elite when healthy. Only team in the East on that level is the Cavs.
