I doubt it, Kobe hasn't adapted his game with age, and I see any free agents of worth that they sign, struggling to fit into the offense.

Lakers are going to waste another season to appease Kobe.

If we dont waste our cap signing somebody like Butler and manage to trade away Randle we might even compete. But Randle is so overrated and Butler is too expensive for what he is doing.
If we cant land Gasol/LMA/DJ we should
1.Trade Randle+pick/s for Cousins if its still a thing or try to aqquire some other big. There are rumours that toronto wan to trade Valanciunas. Lakers should go after him.I would even take Hilbert+picks for Randle.
2.Clarkson would go too if I was the GM. Trade him while his value is high along with some picks for either a stretch 4 who can somehow rebound, or for a 3 and D SF.
3.In worst case scenario our line up would be something like:
Russel
Kobe
Carrol
Josh Smith/Thadeus Young
Hilbert/Valanciunas

Seems decent and considering that Smith/Young would not ask for the max plus the cheap contract Valanciunas has atm, there is some room for good bench players.

I would try to go for Brandon Wright/Stuckey/Crowder/Dunleavy/Aminu/CJ Watson/Neal if they cap room doesnt look good .
L.Williams/Amir Johnson and West if there is some cap space.
Jefferson/Prince/R.Evans/Villanueva/Joel Anthony for minimum.
Pick 2-3 from first group, 1 from second and 2 from last group and you have a good bench aswell.

Russel/Watson
Kobe/Stuckey
Carrol/Aminu/
J.Smith/West
Valanciunas/JoelAnthony/Villanueva
+our 2 Rookies

WCF easily

No but not because of Kobe. Forget about him, Lakers has 2 rookies, a sophomore, some DL players and room for 1 max FA (that may or may not want to sing with LA). That doesn't seem a playoff team.

The lakers are a developmental team how are they supposed to make the playoffs..and on top of that in the West. They are going to be one of the worse teams in the West again.
