'07 Kobe gets overlooked. Most people always bring up 2006, 2008, 2003 and 2001, but 2007 is right up there as well. He was slowed down initially by a knee surgery, but here's what he put up month by month afterwards that season: 31/5/5, 29/6/6, 30/6/5, 40/6/5, 34/6/6 (all usually on 46-47% shooting with a lot threes, except February when he shot just 44%). I think early in the season when the team was healthy, you saw him control the game, like you would in second half of '08. He was making everyone better, had a great balance of scoring/playmaking. The Lakers were 26-13 midway through the season, and then injuries hit the team and they tailspinned. After a 6-7 game losing streak Phil Jackson asked Kobe to shoot more, and he reached that superhuman scoring mode in March/April to keep Lakers in the playoffs. He was still very quick and athletic in the second half of that season, but his game was also mature and polished. Really a shame he didn't have a chance to put up a deep playoff run with a great cast, the Lakers were outmatched badly in the first round.

Wilt is a freak of nature while Kobe is an average sized 2 guard. This feat is more impressive.

James never publicly demanded changes from ownership.

Kobe got what he wanted. First option and chuck as much as he wanted. So why the public trade demands considering he was playing so great?

I still can't believe Luke Walton was the third best player on the team. Then they had a rookie Jordan Farmar taking Smush's starting job by the time the playoffs rolled around. That roster was such a wreck, but Kobe made the Lakers fun to watch. Too bad he played in a stacked conference because things would have been different in the east.

So why the need to make it known before the draft, that Kobe will only sign with the 2nd greatest franchise in NBA history? A team who already had all-stars, won 53 games and was a 4 seed the year before. Plus knew Shaq was coming to LA.

The level of endurance that takes is most impressive. It's one thing to be hot for a stretch, but to have the legs to get to the rim/foul line and shoot well enough to score like that night after night after night. Unreal.

That has to be one of the worst rosters ever assembled. All those scrub players were an assault to the Lakers uniform.

Radmanovic pulled a Jay Williams (no disrespect to him) mid-season with a snowboarding accident and ended up missing 8 weeks.

Smush also lost his starting job to rookie Jordan farmar by the time the playoffs rolled around.

SMH @ Laker management for wasting Kobe's best years.

Not at all. Was just providing the facts on how Kobe insisted on making it easy for himself before ever putting on a NBA uniform.

Unlike LeBron, who had no problem with playing for the 17 win / one of the worst organizations in the history of the NBA, Cavs.

I remember reading one of the best posts by rhythmic thesis about Kobe's 2006 team. He absolutely obliterated someone in an argument who tried to make it sound like Kobe had as much help as LeBron in 07. :oldlol:

man if only social media & youtube were around back then

You remember when Barry Bonds was smashing baseballs into the Pacific Ocean, and ESPN would stop what they were doing to show him every time he was at bat? That's kind of what Kobe was doing.

Social media goes apeshit when a guy has ONE 50 point game. Kobe was making that shit routine. Truly mind blowing.
