My question now is... How much will it take for Lebron to overtake Duncan?
I think winning another Championship and FMVP will be enough to catapult him above Duncan and into the top 5 class.
3 Rings
3 FMVPs
4 MVPs

No chance, he has 0 non-collusion rings. If LeBron never bailed to south beach and brought a few championships to Cleveland we could be having this discussion but unfortunately it didn't pan out that way.

Much like the general consensus of MJ being the greatest

There's no consensus for either being better. Most people have them around the same range. Then it's a matter of preference.
I personally still have Kobe ahead of him. But it's close.

Duncan hasnt won a ring as the man since 2005 (even then it was arguable), his career isnt nearly as good as people think. He lost in the 1st round multiple times, and choked many playoff series
I think another FMVP from Lebron would be enough to end the debate.

LeBron would have many 1st round exits in the West as well, just like everybody else in the West. And you mention Duncan choking in a debate between him and LeBron is hilariously ironic.

Bran hasn't even surpassed Hakeem on the all-time list. He has no chance at Kobe/Duncan. That ship sailed when Bran colluded and lost in 2011. 2/6 and giving away multiple FMVP's to role players just cemented it even further.

Yeah, I wonder what OP means by "general concensus", because last I checked this topic still gets debated and just won't go away.
Anyways, espn did have that sportsnation poll earlier this month and had Kobe winning over LeBron 64% to 36%.
Funny how Kobe won every state (including Florida) except for Ohio (of coarse) and Wyoming (weird), and the rest of the world too. :oldlol:
Yet, if this poll would have been a year ago I'm sure Kobe wins Ohio but loses in Florida. :oldlol: :oldlol:

Kobe has the more refined skill set, a deadlier scorer.
But Bron is just a better 'player'.
I remember watching Bron in high school and thinking "this dude is a better player than Kobe!" I could see that he had a better feel for the game at that early age. Yes he was rough, but the natural instincts were there. Kobe was much better scorer (always has, always will), but Bron was just better at everything else.
But I love watching them both when they're at the top of their game. Oddly enough I love to watch them when they play the complete opposite of each other, ie.
When Kobe has around 2o points 8 boards 8 assists 2 steals... I think at times those are his best games. Just plays a beautiful all around non forced game, but I like to watch Bron when he scores 40 points 7 boards 7 assists 2 steals... he's dominant when he wants too, yet still has a good balance.
I think Bron is still top 10 with Kobe top 15 (somewhere there).

Kobe has always had one of the best franchises in the league. People forget that even when LeBron was bashing on the league, people would pack up and still move to LA, rather than Cleveland.
Your franchise makes your career as much as your teams do.
Kobe has had the best teams, the best FO, and the best market leading franchise. Leading to the better overall career.
LeBron is the better player.
Switch one thing (which teams they played for) and the question would be:
"Jordan or LeBron?"
Because LeBron vs Kobe wouldn't be on anyone's radar. And if the Cavs worked in the same way with Kobe, as they did LeBron, Kobe would have left as soon as possible.

Who shoots a better 3 point percentage again...o ya bron. Even though apparently he cant shoot and has no real skills right, and they both shoot exactly the same amount for career(4.0 a game).
Who shoots better in the post again....Bron. Who shoots better percentage overall again....bron.
Who is a better rebounder...bron. Who is a much much better playmaker and passer...u guessed it-bron. Who can guard more positions again...bron.
Now tell me what kobe is better at again; mid range jumpers is all he got but too bad a mid range contested jumper isnt as easy as a drive to the basket or post up.

It has something to do with it but not all for instance Lebron didn't take over until old guard got old and exciting their primes those bring Shaq, Kobe, and Duncan. Lebron took over as leagues best player 2010 at a perfect time kind of like MJ in early 90's. I'll take Kobe at his best over Lebron come postseason time he has those intangibles you can't teach along with will to win and killer instinct. Kobe had to face much tougher teams in brutal Western Conference just look at all 50+ teams he had to beat reaching the Finals it's crazy impressive something Lebron never did in pathetic weak East.

LeBron is terrible at throwing down passes to a guy trying to post up.
And his rebounds go down with prime shaq on the team.
23-7-6 is the realistic statline for bron playing with shaq.
But they probably don't win, LeBron lacks clutchness and will to take the team over the hump when shaq fouls out
