Wow. He really going for the money. This is probably cheap compared to what he would've got after the cap explodes.

This is probably cheap compared to what he would've got after the cap explodes. It kicks in once the cap explodes next summer. He could have risked it by signing short term next summer (QO or 1+1 deal next summer), but you gotta grab the max for your 2nd deal. He'll be a FA in 2020 most likely and can probably sign for $50M per year lol.

Really nigqa? Melo's bout 10 years his senior, on a featherweight team that has been a joke since the creation of this website...AD and company got a good thing going for themselves in NOLA.

How is that even possible? That's 29 million per year. LeBron isn't even eligible for that large of a contract.

Davis is eligible for the Derrick Rose rule that allows him to occupy 30% of the teams cap, which makes Leonard signing for only 90m all the more suspicious. You're telling me he left 55m on the table because he is a good teammate? No ****ing way, he has got to be gettin paid under the table.

Needs to start the 2016 All-Star Game or be on an All-NBA team next year to get the 30% of the cap max. Odds are he'll get it. And he got the 5th year as on option. AD is a made man basically haha.

Timing is kinda unfortunate for Love that he can't sign an extension of this size this summer, but blame the owners for the way they constructed the CBA.

Are you talking about AD or Kawhi? Kawhi I'm not so sure about, but I read on yahoo that AD does in fact fall under the Derrick Rose rule. I was thinking well shit, since Kawhi won a finals mvp he must fall under the rule...guess he has to start in an all star game first?

A Designated Player may be eligible to earn 30% of the salary cap (rather than the standard 25%) if he passes certain criteria. To be eligible, the player must be voted to start in two All-Star Games, or be named to an All-NBA Team twice (at any level), or be named MVP. Officially titled the "5th Year 30% Max Criteria"[2] it has been dubbed (and is more commonly known as) the "Derrick Rose Rule" after the 2011 MVP,[13] due to the fact that when the criterion was introduced, Rose was the only player in the NBA eligible to sign the maximum extension (due to his MVP award).[14] The reasoning for the rule is to suitably reward players being extended off of their rookie contract who are considered to be of a higher "caliber" than their peers, without restricting them to the lower (25%) salary level.[15] A player may sign a "5th Year, 30% Max" contract before the final year of his rookie contract and before fulfilling the criteria needed to receive the 30% salary grade. Should the player fail to fulfil the criteria before the start of his Designated Player contract, he will receive the standard five year, 25% Designated Player contract. James Harden of the Houston Rockets had such a clause in his contract extension, but failed to meet the criteria.[16] The only player in the NBA who was attempting to qualify for a full 30% contract in 2013–14 was Paul George, who signed a provisional 30%/5 year contract in September 2013. George, who had made the All-NBA third team in 2012-13,[17] qualified by again making the All-NBA third team.[18]

Leonard hasn't been voted into any all-star game (much less 2), any all-nba team (much less 2) or MVP. He's making the maximum he can legally make - no discount to the Spurs.

I'm under the impression that neither currently qualify and Kawhi cannot, no matter what he does in 2015-2016. I think AD can still attain it by hitting those benchmarks this year, though. His deal is worth up to $145M, but can be less if doesn't start this year's ASG or make an All-NBA team.

Kawhi is completely maxed out for what he's achieved & years played, the same way Butler has been offered the same deal by the Bulls.

Regular season mvp counts but finals mvp doesn't?

That ain't right.
