Over the last 10 years I can't think of one other player who has been so diminished. Yes we did see a holy grail period in the early to mid 2000s at the position with Duncan, Garnett, Sheed, Dirk, Webber, Mcydess etc, but I don't see how a guy who has an average of 25ppg over 19 seasons can be so underrated and disrespected. It wasn't like he was only a scorer either...he rebounded, played defense, was a good passer...why is he so underrated?
Is it really the fact that he didn't win a ring? Because stats don't lie...and his are pretty fantastic. Or is it that he played with John Stockton? Another player who is severely underrated in general, but that's a different thread. Those seem to be the two biggest items of contention when it comes to Malone anyway. Even the old timers who really saw him (about as much as you can during the mid to late 80s and 90s anyway) play don't seem to hold much respect for him. The guy was 36 in 2000 averaging 25.5ppg on .582%ts before any of the new soft rules...how is that not impressive to any of you?
I don't think I've EVER seen one thread praising him...and we have about a dozen threads a day each sucking kobe and lebrons dick...:facepalm
I don't understand how if you saw him play 2000 or before you can't respect him. Yes Duncan is the golden boy, but Karl Malone is pretty comfortably a top 20 player...so why don't we ever talk about him? If it does go back, it's always about Barkley and never Malone at that. Truly one of the most disrespected players to ever play considering his body of work.

Lmao, legit just said this in a Malone vs. McHale thread
The amount of disrespect Malone gets on this site is ridiculous. He put up elite production for over 15 years, averaged 25/10/3 on 50% for a decade straight, and if he didn't play in the Jordan era, would have had a resume that looked like this
15 All-NBA Teams, 11 first (tied with Kobe for most all time) 2 MVP's, 2 Finals MVP's, and the second most points in NBA history
That's a top 10 resume right there. McHale was an excellent player and had a great peak, but this thread is just an insult to Malone. He's got to be the most disrespected top 20 player of all time on ISH. LeBron, Kobe, and Wilt get a lot of shit, but at least people defend them. Ain't nobody on here stands up for Malone, he's always mentioned in a negative light
If not for Jordan, Malone is a top 10 player of all time

Probably because he was a dirty player who choked in big moments, and has a thing for little children.
btw in one of the Open Court episodes, the group pretty much agreed Malone was carried by Stockton. Think Zeke said it. Interesting to hear from those who played against them.

if you really want to ask the question as to why can't more players model their game after Malone
Okay, Derek Fisher is overrated

He was obviously a legit all time great but all time greats are measured by rings. It really is that simple. If he has just one ring over MJ, he is a top 10-15 player. This guy won 2 mvp awards also.

Because even the nba players themselves during interviews about the dream team said he looks lost and way worse without john stockton carrying him in their scrimmages and practices.

Dude, any non black player is more disrespected than Malone.
Malone deserves some of the disrespect because he joined the Lakers. But other than that, he's one of the greatest PFs of all time and he did get robbed in the finals.

He's the 3rd best PF of all time behind Duncan and KG.

You think Dwert gets shit for plowing a 16 year old? Try molesting and impregnating a 12 year old. Malone is a disgusting human being. Dwight too, but not as bad as Karl.

Regular season-wise, he's top 10.
Things get a lot more grim when you examine his postseason chops. .526 TS% is incredibly inefficient for a big man.
Beyond that, he visibly shrank in the big moments.
So, he deserves his due respect, he was a very very good player over a long period of time, and probably top 25. But, he sucked when it mattered. In the postseason you'd be better off with him as a second/third option.

Basically...all i'm reading from the responses is this: I'm a child and I don't like Karl Malone as a person so that' impacts what he did in basketball.
Yet Kobe was up for rape charges and you all suck his dick...:oldlol:
:yaohappy:
Karl Malone has a top 10 resume period, basketball wise. Yet...he gets no respect. That's honestly my question...I saw the man play for a good 10 year period, so I know what is what...why don't you all?

This much is true.
There isn't any disrespect. Guy get ranked Top 20-25 almost all the time. What more "respect" does he warrant ? If he doesn't get talked about enough, it's because he always played in a small market and he doesn't talk much in media.

People don't like Malone or the Jazz. Never have, never will. I was raised on Stockton and Malone, and honestly, I never liked them... because they always beat the teams I did like.

Another reason is: he played in Utah. Basically all Boston and Utah players will always be disrespected because there is this stereotype that both are considered 'white' cities.

Ran Magic Johnson out of the league when he tested positive for HIV. That's why the world hates Malone's guts.

As a Jazz fan, I believe he underperformed during the playoffs. Not so much at 1st or 2nd round games but when the team was playing at the WCF or the League Finals, he should have done better for a player of his caliber.

A great regular season player but shrinked in the playoffs..
Btw does anyone here know....in the 1995 playoffs 1st round...Jazz led Rockets 2-0 ...Rockets won the final 3 games
That was a choke of epic proportions by Malone.

He retired 10 years ago. Arguably the GOAT PF but it seems silly to think he's disrespected simply because there's no conversation about him a decade after he retired
