Pippen? Kobe? McHale? Wade?

who was riding the best 1st option? Who was left open the most because their better teammate got the most double teams?

and also lets put recruiting ability and desire from peers to play with you into the mix while we're at it.

discuss.

Pippen followed by Kobe (during Shaq's years). If Wade were healthy, LeBron would be the GOAT sidekick (replacing Pippen at the top spot).

Kobe

There was a story back in 2001 on Sports Illustrated.... Shaq used to call Kobe 'Robin' and Kobe didn't like it... Later on in the season Kobe started calling himself Robin for a stretch of games just before the playoffs... He kept telling Shaq, "Robin is the next Batman"... Kobe was always snaring in the long grass, like Scar to Musafa...

Considering you all like to use playoff win shares to say who the MVP of that season should be (hence everyone saying Pau>Kobe in 2010), then Shaq was the best sidekick ever in 2001.

Not Kobe, he averaged 22 ppg in the Finals compared to Shaqs 38 ppg, thats WOAT production for a 2nd option

However, he was a good 2nd option for Gasol

I'd say Shaq with Kobe. Kobe's pick and rolls caused the big men to go back. Kobe slashing through the defense broke teams down so they were unable to get back to Shaq. If they couldn't get back, its was a problem. Kobe created for Shaq directly with his penetration and none of Shaq's teamates got the ball to Shaq better than Kobe did. Kobe's clutch ability and ability to consistently take over in 4th quarters also helped Shaq tremendously, especially when Phil had to bench Shaq because of teams resorting to Hack-a-Shaq. Kobe was the primary facilitator/play maker on those championship teams. Kobe directly created for Shaq more with his penitration. How many times have we seen highlights from that era of Kobe penetrating into the paint drawing a second defender then dropping the ball into Shaqs hands for an open power slam?

Shaq doubling Kobe's PPG in the Finals was really a great sidekick job I agree!

Pipen's overall production, when considering other aspects of his game was similar.

Not many sidekicks crack the top GOAT list. This is why I think Kobe is the greatest of all time.

His Finals winning percentage is proof of how great he is.

'87 McHale has to be the best 2nd option season in recent history.

26/10 on 66 TS% and 4th in MVP voting (1 spot behind Bird).

So does Worthy.

bran has a case for WOAT sidekick in 2011, plain and simple destroyed his team title chances single handedly

Kareem also deserves mention.

So does Magic for that matter.

Magic was Kareem's 2nd option, then eventually Kareem became Magic's second option.

LeBron was Dirk's sidekick in 2011....Other than that, i'd have to say McHale.
