But he ran away from his destiny and decided to be d wades woman instead. Resulting in 1 lousy extra ring.
Had he stayed and taken his place as the old lion being surpassed as the lakers alpha male he wouldve easily retured with ATLEAST 5 rings.
Kobe was very young playing alongside shaq during that 3 peat but the gap was closing and fast. Unfortunately he couldn't bare the thought of playing second fiddle to a guy who was clearly going to take over in LA.

Shaq declined at a pretty astonishing rate after his trade from L.A. Besides maybe '06 I don't think the Lakers win another ring, and would clearly be worse off with Shaq than Gasol '08-'10

06 shaq was enough to help d wade get a ring. Kobe was just as good as d wade in 06 he just had nobodies on his team.

Kobe was a bit too rushed to be 1st option...he had to wait at least 1-2yrs more before he got that opportunity in LA if Shaq were around. And Shaq would have gladly handed that over, as soon as he was traded he gave the 1st option role to DWade, so why wouldn't he do it for Kobe?:confusedshrug:
With Kobe's sabotage in being 1st option in the 2004 Finals, to then snitching and basically forcing Shaq out of town....he cost the Lakers what could possibly of been a 6 peat, and most definitely a 4peat as they certainly don't lose in 2004.
But as we see...Kobe cost himself a bit in terms with title losses, missed playoffs and so on. And that trait in him rushing to be 1st option was pre-emtpetive then, and today it's long overdrawn in trying to remain 1st option. Kobe will be Kobe, that's for...it's cost him and the Lakers early, and now circling it's ugly head and costing them drastically now

well here's the devils advocate...if overpaying for Shaq was ill-advised back then, why is Kobe getting $25mil per accepted today by much of the Laker fan-base?
situation is one in the same...Lakers felt Shaq was old and could not continue as #1, however he did prove he was worth keeping by winning in 2006 alongside DWade as 2nd option as he took the back seat.
Kobe is old and is not winning anything of recent, or willing to take a back seat to anyone, and is driving away potential 1st options.

Shaq and Kobe's egos were too big to have coexisted much longer than they did. They had a hell of a run, but each side was not willing to concede to the other. Magic kind of took over as lead dog completely in 1987, once Kareem had aged out of the role. The same thing could have happened with Shaq and Kobe had the former been willing to defer, and the latter not been in such a rush to take that number one role. After 2006, Kobe could have taken that lead position, Shaq could have played the role he did in Miami with Wade, and with a few more pieces they may have gotten a couple more rings.

No chance of a 4 or 6peat happening considering LA didn't make it to the Finals in 2003.
Yes but Kobe couldnt wait and fked everything up in 2004.
This isn't accurate. Shaq left the Lakers on his own free will. It had nothing to do with Kobe. Kobe opted-out of his contract and was actually on the verge of signing with the Clippers. Shaq did not leave because of Kobe, the Lakers traded Shaq because he was 32 years old, going into his 13th season, his talent was declining, he was showing up to training camp out of shape and unmotivated, but still demanded max money and Buss refused to give him a max deal, so during a pre-season game after Shaq dunked the ball, he pointed and yelled at him "pay me motherf*cker.

How exactly did Kobe "sabotage" the Finals or force Shaq out of town? Fact is simple. Shaq demanded to be traded from the Lakers, while Kobe opted out of his contract and was no longer a Laker. It was basically confirmed that Kobe was going to be a Clipper prior to Shaq being traded. Nobody forced Shaq out, since he had an offer on the table, it was 100% his choice. Had Shaq decided to stay a Laker and accepted the offer from Jerry Buss, he'd be a Laker still in 2005. Kobe actually had already decided to sign with the Clippers, but Buss made a last-ditch effort to Bryant because he knew how disasterous it would be from a public relations standpoint for the Lakers to lose both of their star players in one offseason. Bryant has admitted he talked to Jerry West and West advised him to stay with the Lakers. Buss and Kupchak convinced him they'd rebuild the team and bring in top talent. So, he re-signed with the Lakers.
So basically Kobe could not have possibly "forced" Shaq out, since Shaq DEMANDED a trade. All Shaq had to do was accept the offer. No team would have been able to trade for him without his consent, so it was 100% in his power to stay. He chose to leave, therefore you can't blame Kobe for what HE demanded.

:oldlol: even Kobe didn't believe that, which is why his insecure ass tried to run him out of town.

:facepalm
Kobe was a free agent going into that summer. If shaq stayed with the Lakers, he wouldn't of ever been Kobe's side kick because Kobe wouldn't of been Laker.
Shaq asked for a trade because he felt disrespected by the Lakers organization and he wanted more money. Basically he knew the Lakers were going to do whatever they needed to resign Kobe. He didn't like the direction they were headed. Kobe wanted Shaq and Phil gone. He was sick of both of them and felt he could win without them.
As a young superstar and a free agent, Kobe had all the leverage. Kobe still has the Lakers organization by the nuts. It's sad and......
