Good sign by the Knicks.
Mavs gonna get that top 5 pick
Knicks making good moves.
Now they need Aldridge and a Center/PG combo.

Does that mean 16 million per year? or 2 years for total of $16 million? $8 million per year is VERY afforadable considering what kind of contracts are being given out.

I heard reports it would be 3 years $36 million ($12 a year), so basically we get him for 2 years at 8 per year? I would imagine he opts out after the 3rd year.
Got to love Phil and his bargaining.

Aaron Alphalo is a good player. Good pick up by the Knicks.
I wonder what we gonna do at C though.
We need a star there, and one who can defend.
Not many good left, if any.

Wolves are trying to unload Rubio and Pekovic's contracts.
If that doesn't happen, you can play Aldridge at C this season until next season where there will be tons of great centers in free agency.
Aldridge
Porzingis
Melo
Aflalo
Lin
Still a good lineup for the playoffs.

Love it. Just the type of underrated signing that could pay dividends.
For C, just like for the Lakers, I'd target Koufos. He's not going to be the next Marc Gasol, or even Mozgov, but I can picture him being a 12/8 guy with solid D. That's nothing to scoff at, especially since he's only 26. Not sure what the market is, but I could see a similar price tag... maybe 2 years, 20m?
Knicks (and Lakers, since the theory is the same) need to be signing guys that are good/solid now, but also have room to grow. If not room to grow, then are a tried-and-true vet presence. Both of those players, Afflalo and Koufos, would fall under the first category.

A few years ago this would have been a ridiculous question to ask. Today....not so much

I think so. Every year of his career, his scoring average increased. Then last year happened. I'll take the other years as evidence over the one outlier.
I'm not saying he'll ever become an all-star. But why can't he become a very strong secondary scorer? Average 17-19 ppg on legit percentages, while also playing solid D? Essentially Jimmy Butler last year.
He'll be 30 when the season starts, but I don't think his game has ever been based on athleticism and, hopefully, playing in a system that works to his abilities, and with a star to take pressure off, will see an increase in his numbers.

I like Afflalo as a player, but meh...he's not improving anything real at this point. He's probably seen his best days...and his defense is vastly over-rated in my opinion.
He's not remotely as good, never was and never will be, as Jimmy Butler was last year.
His numbers might look good, but that won't reflect his actual basketball playing ability. I tried to explain this to Kblaze years ago when he was calling this kid a borderline star and saying the Magic shouldn't trade him.
There is a reason he ultimately got traded for Fournier and the 56th pick or whatever it was...and it wasn't just about his contract.
Again, nice player, but he's not a move the needle guy on a bad team. He's a fit in and play a solid role on a good team type guy. That is his value. If he's putting up big numbers...your team likely sucks.
Wow.. Great signing and price.

Great signing due to the fact we got him a good price and in a short term contract. When guys like Carroll are getting around 12mill a year this contract looks very good.
He fits a position of need, plays defense and can stretch the floor.

I didn't mean he was as good as Butler, just a similar role and similar numbers. Sorry for the bad, and confusing, comparison.
As for the rest.. good points. I forgot about what the actual trade was...
The Knicks, though, need nice players. He IS a good signing at that price. Nothing earth-shattering. Afflalo won't make them a playoff team, but he's a small piece in a larger puzzle.
All too often ISHites (not you, though) think that the only way to build a team is with splashy moves. But in reality, a splashy move is either the quickest way to torpedo a team, or it's the final piece.
This Afflalo signing is a small piece, albeit a confusing one, but if the Knicks have a legit plan towards being competitive this year, and contending in the future, Afflalo could be a useful piece.

You were throwing a fit about the OKC not obtaining him via trade at the deadline last year or year before. Now he is a scrub?

He never said scrub. Said a nice player, and just didn't move the needle on a bad team. OKC is not a bad team. He would be great on OKC.

Oh yes yes.
I agree. I like the signing.
I don't know if you know my posts, but I was going hard for the Thunder to trade for Afflalo years ago. He was the missing piece on that team and I'd bet just about everything I have that they would have won the title with him in 14.
The Thunder lost a very tight, could have gone either way, 6 game series to the Spurs in 14...and they played Fisher/Butler a combined like 42 minutes a game iirc.
You put Afflalo on that team and he's the difference in a series loss and a championship imo.
So don't get me wrong, I think he can be an extremely valuable player in the right situation.
I just wanted to make it clear that I don't think he's the type of guy that is transforming a team the way a guy like Butler would....and that Afflalo's defense really isn't what people assume it is.
Again, just imo.

See my above post.
How on earth do you get scrub out of that?
He's a very good player that would excel in a situation like the Thunder...like I have repeatedly said for years here.
He's just not Jimmy Butler...he's not close. That doesn't mean he's a scrub.
Damn...you guys and this black/white mindset. So damn narrow minded...it's either star or scrub.
You quote a post in which I say:
Again, nice player, but he's not a move the needle guy on a bad team. He's a fit in and play a solid role on a good team type guy. That is his value.
And you think I'm calling him a scrub? This makes no sense.

Good signing but he's not averaging 18 on a good team, he was doing that on a bad team. Knicks are currently a bad team but improving. Hopefully he gets back to his roots of being a 3 and D guy, and lets the offense come to him. Knicks need him to get back into a very good defensive player mode.

No, you get him for 1 year at $8 mil and he can opt out of the 2nd year if he wants. So basically expect him to statpad like a mother and ask for more money a year from now.

not the same player he was in his 1st stint in denver
not much elite defense anymore, but his offense has improved, especially mid ranga and in the post
