38 million a year being paid to Love and Thomas for the next 5 years? Seems like a lot. No?

Yes it is. Nearly 40m a year on two players that each play on one side of the court for the same position.

But on the other hand, like stated countless times before me, cavs don't get better by not paying them because they can't sign other FA.

Good move by Gilbert IMO

Gilbert has no choice. The guy basically promised to do whatever it took to bring the city a championship after LeBron left him high and dry. Now, he's basically got no other choice than to put his money where his mouth was. Time to pay up Danny boy.

No choice than to resign love after trading wiggins and TT is a rare comedy who is a great piece to winning team. Don't forget Andy V is coming back next year as well the cavs front line is stacked.

I agree. You can't afford to lose Love after just one year and after giving up some great young talent. They also have Mozgov so their front court will be impressive!

I find it odd that a billionaire would cower to someone. Seems like they'd have to much of an ego to put up with it. It's not like he really needs the money. Cleveland's economy might be suffering when Lebron is gone, but he's not.

He's probably not cowering, but his ego was definitely hurt after LeBeta won a title elsewhere. At this point, since he wants to win a title, he's probably just doing whatever to actually win. It would be a good look for him.

TT is more of a 5 than a 4, and i think the best lineups last year were a Love TT front court.

Gilbert has always shown a willingness to spend. From the gigantic ass new scoreboard, to the state of the art practice facility, to the cavs medical division, etc.

Best owner in Cleveland, although that's not saying much since Haslem is a meddling crook and Larry Dolan is a miser.

If healthy a cavs lineup of Irving, shump, lebron, love, TT would be a nightmare for warriors.

In two years the salary FLOOR will be ~97M. The Luxury tax line will be at 129.6M (120% of 108M)

So NO. Not a deal at all. Shump just signed 4/40. Kyrie just had his 5 year deal START and will make on avg ~18M. So Love, Kyrie, Thompson, Sump are all under contract for 4+ years and make a combined 10+18+16+22= 66M leaving ~60M+/yr for LeBron and the bench before they even get into tax.

Locking in everyone for long term deals this year is the best thing Cle sports has ever done. Barring injuries this team will be among the favorites for the next 4 years.

Gilbert has 5 billion dollars, and owns a casino. He's secure for life. That's why he's willing to sign a player like Shumpert for $40 million instead of losing him, and not being able to sign someone due to being over the cap.

There was never any question that Dan Gilbert was going to pay whatever it took to build a winner and then keep it together. Those who are just learning of his penchant for spending ridiculous amounts of money for even a chance to improve the team haven't been paying attention.

First of all, back when LBJ was a Cavalier the first time, the organization always had amongst the highest payrolls in the league. He'd take on huge contracts of players past their prime without batting an eye like Ben Wallace, Antawn Jamison and Shaq.

Then, after LeBron left, he kept doing it. The only reason the Cavs have Kyrie Irving right now is he took advantage of cheap Clippers ownership (Donald Sterling) and got all the protections taken off their lottery pick by taking on Baron Davis' massive contract.

There weren't many people looking to take on that contract for what was assumed to be a late lottery pick. He did and now the Cavs have Irving.

Two years ago, Andrew Bynum was the beneficiary of his throwing money around. He overpaid for guys like Earl Clark and Jarrett Jack too, because that's who his GM at the time -- Grant -- wanted to add to the roster.

This is not LeBron James forcing Dan Gilbert to do things that he hasn't been willing to do before. This is Dan Gilbert doing what he has always done, just on a grander scale because he has players worthy of these contracts. Since he took over as owner, money has never been the difference between getting a player and losing them.

He will keep paying too. Most owners would let this Haywood contract expire. Don't be surprised if Gilbert uses it to get more depth and more contracts on the books.

And Timo will get paid next offseason. No doubt about it.

That's Dan being Dan.
