Maybe what made him say no was the fact that the Lakers wanted to play him at center (something he specifically said he did not want to do). Hibbert is still an option at center...we should be focusing more on Harris doe, he is much more of a possibility.

LMAO. Lakers on their knees. They probably told Kobe to gtfo after ruining the first meeting. Bet you they tell Aldridge, "don't worry, we'll get rid of Kobe for you, we just don't want to say it in front of him."

You'd rather not sign him and try our "luck" next season with the same exact assets? It didn't workout the past 3 years, what makes you think it will work next year? They say 3 times a charm...well this is our 3rd free agency looking for a successor, go all in now.

LMA not signing with LA has nothing to do with Kobe...It's living arrangement and money and on the court issues, Lakers were discussing off-court issues too much, that's the topic for LMA's life. Also how would Kobe effect a long term deal if he isn't going to be there long term himself?

At this point it's either a yes or no from him. If he can put up with Kobe like others were years prior then good. But if he can't handle it like Howard couldn't, rather go through another rebuild year grow our young talent and be hopeful to keep the top 3 pick protected.

Specifically, one source told ESPN's Chris Broussard, Aldridge thought the presentation was too off-court focused, with the basketball portion underwhelming. According to the Los Angeles Times, the negative feelings about the basketball side had to do with the Lakers' lack of focus on analytics (a subject ESPN.com's Baxter Holmes tackled in February).

Hope he goes to the Lakers. Would be fun.meh... IF he were to come to LA I'd be happy but he's not a foundation piece... See his time in Portland, Aldridge is what the Spurs need to get back in the hunt he's not what the Lakers need to base a rebuild on..you don't build around aldridge..
the best part about him is he would be attractive enough next couple years as a teammate to the type of player that is a difference maker

We could use Swaggy's contract and the remaining cap space as a trade exception to trade for Hibbert. But then do we play Kobe at the 3 and Clarkson at the 2?

FO would still have the 3 mill exception to throw at a Small forward tho if that scenario unfolds but not sure about Hibbert he's making like 15 mill IIRC
Are Kobe haters really this retarded?:biggums:
Kobe haters are a f*ced up bunch mentally. These are the same people who said Gasol was the "real 2010 Finals MVP" and that Gasol carried Kobe and how Kobe wouldn't have won without Gasol, Kobe couldn't get past the 1st round until Gasol came to the Lakers, yet Kobe saying LMA and him would be a similar to him and Pau is an insult now.

Considering the cap is 69m and not 67 as we first thought, we have about 26m in capsapce. Aldridge max is around 18m 1st year, leaving us 8m to work with. Young's contract for next season is 5m, combined = 13m. There is some leeway when it comes to trading, contracts don't have to match up exactly, but even if we needed to include a guy like Sacre that wouldn't be a problem.

Kobe affects the situation because he keeps them middle of the pack for at least another year. One season wasted right there. Then they will be back in the lottery with a low lottery pick. He'll be doing the Portland rebuild he did with lillard 3 years ago. Only they have yet to get a shooter and defender like Wesley Matthews. Lakers are in for a rebuild for 3-5 seasons at least. If Kobe were young this would make sense for Aldridge. He is not. Aldridge will waste a lot of years in LA. San Antonio is best option.

I still don't understand why Aldridge want to leave Portland. If he is about winning, no team that is currently pursuing him has a player that is better than Lillard.
This is not about basketball or winning, this is about lifestyle. He wants to be in a bigger market. And he wants to be the alpha in that market. But truthfully, any team that signs him up to be an alpha is going to disappointed. He is a star player, but he ain't no superstar. If I was the Lakers, I look elsewhere.

not really
we had the most dominating duo in the NBA for numerous years, and then had an all time great cornerstone who only needed 1 other all star to complete a championship core.. we haven't had a need for big FA's until just recently..
for the past 15 years we didn't need to spend our resources on putting 4 max contract all stars around our star player just so that we could try to win more than we lost in the finals.. an all star and a few role players mixed in here and there had always been enough..

Aldridge just wants a good reason to sign with the Lakers even if other prospects make more sense currently...

There was so much Rondo to the Lakers talk in the media for the last few months call could have been just to say we won't be having you in for a meeting. Or as the Lakers often do open up their facilities to players in the off season or take a look at him late in the offseason on veterans minimum if nobody has picked him up
oh the horror

Kobe haters are a f*ced up bunch mentally. These are the same people who said Gasol was the "real 2010 Finals MVP" and that Gasol carried Kobe and how Kobe wouldn't have won without Gasol, Kobe couldn't get past the 1st round until Gasol came to the Lakers, yet Kobe saying LMA and him would be a similar to him and Pau is an insult now.
 Like LeBron haters are any better. LeBron haters need to shake off their own autism before they call out Kobe haters. But this ish after all so we know this eternal battle for king of the autistic Hill will never cease.

Never really wanted Aldridge to begin with but it's nice we lost all of our dignity by begging a guy we never had a shot at signing to give us a second chance to sell LA. :lol :facepalm
Anyone besides me even realize he averaged 33% fg in the playoffs this year?

This shit started with collusion in 2010 and became a brand. Then we begged Decoward - wrong move - set a horrible buzz about our team - despite carrying his @ss to the playoffs with all of the injuries to our team and with a sorry @ss coach. No team is safe from that pill, certainly not the Heat and Pat Riley. Sooner or later they'll get a big taste of it. As for Lebron, 2-6. The more he loses the more his legacy is tarnished. I guess he got at least 2.

Nikka you popped out of nowhere to defend your boy.
Now that's rent free.
That's before Kobe even played a game for Lakers. Ever since then Lakers could only get good chips via under the table trade.
No one wants to play with Kobe!!!

Why not just develop the young studs this year, maybe get lucky with the draft, and sign some big free agents next summer?
I highly doubt a Lakers squad + Aldridge would make it to the playoffs this year, unless the team plays godly together.

My thoughts too. My guess, which has been mentioned before, is they must think they need to get at least 1 established star as a bridge from when Kobe steps away to attract other stars to come on board. Personally given how things have gone, maxing LA is something I would pass over. We aren't winning a championship this year even with LA. We don't have the horses. He will be 31 or 32 before we can really get things going. Better to just suck it up and have huge cap space to make a run at the next group of guys come next year and the year after.

Because we don't have a pick next year.

This has been the Lakers plan for the past 2 years and you've seen how it's worked out. Aldridge and this Lakers squad would easily make the playoffs even if its a low seed. With the cap increasing the superstars will have their pick of teams to sign with over the next couple years. This year in free agency was the time to make a significant signing, but the Lakers need to move on from Aldridge its getting embarrassing.

So Aldridge leaves Portland so they're gone. Assuming Okc takes their soot that leaves the Mavs who aren't looking good at all right now and who would probably tank for the top 7 protected pick. Nuggets, Sacramento, Minnesota will all suck so their only competition for the last spot is Phoenix. And that's not even considering how injuries could affect other teams. As long as they sign a center and other starter at SF they can compete.
