View Full Version : How Can the Lakers Lose Enough Games Next Year to Keep their Pick?

Their 2016 is only top three protected (goes to Sixers otherwise).
If LA misses out on Aldridge and fills out the roster with some stable vets (and Kobe stays healthy), they might not be able to lose enough games to keep their pick, and they will almost certainly miss the Playoffs.
They're in a tough spot here.

Depends on how they start the season. If the Russell/Clarkson/Randle get off to a great start, I don't any reason to start "tanking".
Would set a bad precedent IMO.

Let Kobe come back as fast as he wants to (likely to be quite a few mpg). Let nature take it's course.
Bring back the 'Princeton' if necessary :oldlol:
If LMA signs with the Lakers, they should have him committed for 72 hours to assess his sanity. If anything, he's using them for traction, and they're using him to put on a dog and pony show for the season ticket holders.
They bust a semi-bold move in the draft, and could have made things look like they actually have a plan, but then go down looking with their pants around their ankles in the ensuing FA big man melee.
Yes, Mitch is an evil genius, and JB is just making the rest of the league think he's an idiot, while getting ready to hatch the ultimate master plan for world domination :crazysam:
Gonna be another sh!t-show this season.
I understand that everyone takes their turn down at the bottom. But the least they could do is acknowledge the truth of the matter. Pretty sure that won't be happening.

A lineup of Russell-Kobe-Young-Randle-David Lee should be the worst defensive team in the league, I think. That's a good start.

Is it too early to start talking about tanking?

Exactly.
Russell - can't even keep in front of a bunch of D1 pg and is a terrible pick and roll defender.
Kobe - is a shell of his former self defensively
Randle - isn't a rim protector at all
David Lee - this guy was riding GSW bench because his defense is atrocious and a liability
They need to get DJ for rim protection or else team is going to have a field day in the paint lol.

Play Kobe heavy minutes from the start, he blows other achilles tendon the first week. Play the rookies and Sacre at center the rest of year. Guaranteed worst record in the league and guaranteed top 3 pick.

If the Lakers were to go hard on tanking this season then you can guarantee no high profile Free Agent in 2016 would want to sign with them.
Losing that many games make the coach look bad and makes the players look bad.

Losing that many games make the coach look bad and makes the players look bad.I can see that. If they manage to dump Nick Young at some point, then all they have on the cap sheet is rookie contracts I think.
Pretty much as blank a canvas as possible to get guys to team up. Could be long shot but could appeal to some power-hungry FAs who want to dictate who their teammates are.

They could also roll out the Kobe system again. That would help.

We would probably give up Nick Young for the right price... say DeMarcus Cousins and 3 future first round picks.

They should tank for it. They will look like terrible idiots if they get slotted 4-8 though.
Before them winning the second pick I was thinking they'd be better off in the top 5 next year than #5 this year.
